Vancouver has now been eliminated. Seattle clinches a spot with a San Jose loss or tie, Colorado clinches a spot with a San Jose loss and is 99.99% assured a spot due to tiebreakers if San Jose ties.

So that Colorado has really killed it for the neutrals.

That's CLB at the bottom right.

San Jose must win tomorrow. If they tie, they cannot catch Seattle since Seattle has 15 wins to San Jose's 13, and they won't be able to catch Colorado as Colorado has one more win than San Jose, but 12 more goals.

Or they'll need to make up 12 goals in 2 matches and hope Colorado loses. 7-7 tie anyone?

Another reason why GD makes more sense.

San Jose actually has a bigger hill to climb there. They're currently at -8, Rapids are at + 10. I agree it makes more sense, but it's actually to San Jose's benefit that it's not GD before GF.

True. But it's easier in general for teams to make up goal difference than goals scored in a matchday (cuz you're assuming the chasing team needs the chased team to lose anyways and will at least regress).

While the Colorado win hurts, today's results weren't all bad for San Jose. With the Seattle loss, San Jose again control their own destiny. With two wins, they will be on 53 points and LA and Seattle will be on 51, so San Jose will finish ahead of at least one of them.

San Jose are blackened burnt toast if they draw tomorrow.

Results today mean that PHI is eliminated if HOU beats NYR tomorrow. While I am normally not an advocate of Dynamo wins, I will make an exception in this case since that outcome would put SKC in control of their own destiny for finishing first in the Eastern Conference (again), with only one game left against a team out of contention.

By the way, if my research is right, only two previous MLS teams have finished first in their conferences three consecutive seasons--DCU (1997-1999) and LAG (2009-2011)--and no team has ever done it four straight years. Hopefully I did not just jinx it for SKC ...

Each of those teams won at least one MLS Cup.

Revs control their own destiny for making the playoffs IF the NYRB can take 1 out of 6 points vs. Houston and Chicago.

You don't understand what "control their own destiny" means.

    Good point.

Okay, but I like the odds of NYRB pulling out 1 point.

In fact, each of those teams won MLS Cup that third year. I was not going to go there, but you forced my hand. :D

I believe that each of those teams also won two Supporters Shields during the three years.

True, including that third year in both cases; but SJE's run last year was just ridiculous, so SKC arguably should have won the SS. :)

Just for the reaction it would garner, I wanna see the top 5 teams in the West all finish with 54 points.
