There are two news items that just recently came up over the weekend. 1) The Lions & Rose Pub, the place that Eberly's Army members and Aztex fans have gather after the Aztex match for the last season is closing it's business today. So we are now looking for a new pub in Austin for future Army gatherings and meetings. You can vote in our poll right here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BCQJ86K And if anyone has a suggestion for a pub, please feel free to post it right here. 2) This Saturday & Sunday January 5 & 6, 2013, the Austin Aztex will hold it's first tryout & invitational camp for 2013 USL PDL Season. The tryouts will take place at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex 10211 W Parmer Lane. For more information check out the Eberly's Army Postings and Eberly's Army's facebook page.
We know some of the players from the 2012 team will be in town for the trials this weekend. Kris Tyrpak and Chuy Cortes are for sure coming as far as I know. There's a detailed agenda of the Saturday and Sunday sessions here that you should check out to make sure you see what you want to.
Earlier today, the Austin Aztex announced the availability of the 2013 season tickets! I'm pretty stoked not just to have these available (I already bought 3 sets), but the fact that the price has not changed from 2012 (they're still $50). These are flex tix so you can use them for any game. Additionally, the first round home game (assuming we win the bid for it) in the US Open Cup and all USL PDL Playoff matches played in Austin are included!! Check out the Austin Aztex site to get yours purchased. May is just around the corner!! By the way, if you didn't see already, the schedule is also out!!! Check it out here.
Was excited to see that we got ALL weekend home matches this season (all but one on Saturday night) with no back-to-back or doubling up of games. Would be fun to see if we can get to a couple of away matches, too. From what I hear there's nothing like Oklahoma City in the springtime...
Something was funky with the new schedule. Then I realized it is 14 games and not 16. But with the length of the season it works out very well. All home games on a weekend and non of those crazy 2 games in 4/5 days. Bravo! And we're in the Open Cup!!!
Just a heads up to everyone here on a couple of items that may be of interest to this group. Both of these are sponsored by Eberly's Army, but are open to all soccer fans in Austin: Sunday, April 7th from noon to 6:00 p.m. :: Eberly's Army will be conducting a pub crawl to determine our match day pub for the 2013 season. We will start south at noon and end up north around 6:00. We will be visiting the following pubs, listed in order: Baker Street Pub (S. Lamar and Barton Skyway), The Tavern (S. Lamar and 12th Street), Cuatro's (24th Street and San Gabriel) and Big Daddy's (Hwy 183 and Burnet). We have a limited number of CapMetro passes for attendees, so be sure to email info@eberlysarmy.com with your RSVP and indicate if you're going to need a pass or not. Saturday, April 28th at 2:00 p.m. :: Eberly's Army will have our Annual General Meeting (AGM) at a yet to be announced location. This AGM is open to all soccer fans in Austin, but only Full and Archivist members will be allowed to vote during our Executive Committee elections. If you have questions on the above, be sure to email info@eberlysarmy.com. Thanks.
We're hoping to be responsible by using CapMetro during the crawl, and are discouraging members from drinking and driving, even if hitting the hard stuff such as Diet Coke. ; )
Just a reminder that this Sunday (April 7th) is our Match Day Pub Crawl. Below is the schedule of where we're going and when we'll be there. Everyone is invited to join us, and all the Pub's have been alerted to our arrival. 12:00 noon :: Start at Baker Street Pub on South Lamar & Barton Skyway 1:00 p.m. :: Travel to The Tavern on South Lamar & 12th Street. 1:10 p.m. :: Check out The Tavern 2:30 p.m. :: Travel to Cuatro's on 24th Street & San Jacinto. 2:45 p.m. :: Check out Cuatro's 3:45 p.m. :: Travel to Big Daddy's on 183 & Burnet 4:15 p.m. :: Check out Big Daddy's 5:15 p.m. :: Complete Pub Crawl We hope to see as many folks as possible there. As a reminder, the Austin Aztex are working with the Army so the Match Day Pub that is selected by the Army is highly likely to be where the team goes for post match as well. Have your say!
Thanks to those of you who came out for our Pub Crawl yesterday. We announced earlier this morning that Eberly's Army had selected The Tavern (12th & Lamar) as our official 2013 Match Day Pub. Let the season begin!!!
The Austin Aztex announced four preseason matches with local universities yesterday. The plan is to play Huston-Tillotson, Southwestern University, St. Edward's University and UT Men's Club in the next couple of weeks. These are all open to fans, so be sure to get down to these to enjoy some good live soccer in Austin.
Just noticed we play okla and hou four times each, thats over half the schedule hmm! Tho I read hou have signed some useful players. what about okla anyone? Anyone go to stassney fields? score?
Austin Aztex 2 vs. St. Edwards 1 Austin Aztex 4 vs. Southwestern 1 Austin Aztex 1 vs. Huston-Tillotson 2
A tweet earlier this week said there would be another preseason game today. Anyone know when and where?
According to their website it is at UT at Whitaker Fields at 7:30pm. http://austinaztex.com/schedule/2013-pdl-schedule/
Combine that with their unannounced scrimmage results Sunday night against Austin FC (a 5-1 win), and the Aztex come out of the preseason schedule 4-1-0, with a goal combination 16 goals scored for and 5 scored against. Not bad... Next comes their season opener against the expansion Oklahoma City FC in Oklahoma City. One note of interest for OCFC (man, that acronym mighty close to another) is that Chris Spendlove is playing for them. Some of you will remember Chris played a couple of seasons with the Aztex in 2009 and 2010 on the PDL squad.
Looking forward to the first game. I just bought my season tickets. Will anyone from Austin make the trip up?
There's discussion amongst a few Eberly's Army members about making the drive to OKC. If you're interested in riding with them, get over to the Army FB page and post a note of interest, or tweet them at @EberlysArmy. On another note, the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup 1st Round Draws were just announced. The Aztex will face the North Texas Rayados at House Park (Austin) on Tuesday, May 14th at 7:30 p.m. This is 4 days earlier than our earlier "first home match", so be sure to mark your calendars. If you like the whole pre- post-match thing, then get to The Tavern for some pints.
Saw about an hour all told of the UT game. Chris T looked fit and his usual busy self and the new guy Chiva very useful indeed, and has some shot on him. We should win Ist round Hunt cup then hows 2nd round drawn? Thanks
