We have 33 player right now two are inactive Hesmer (season ending) Balchan (temporary) that takes us down to 31 players when Arrieta becomes active Heinemann will become inactive (season ending) brining us down to 30 and roster complaint. If Balchan can ever get healthy and become active we will need to make a cut.

Am I then correct in assuming that bringing in a DP would also require a cut?

Yes, but we will have to cut an international no matter what. Even if Tommy goes to season ending IR with Will and Rich doesn't come back and joins them we'd still have to cut one of our internationals. Jardy reported that Birchall took our last international spot because it was widely known Arrieta was on the way he said he was counting him. That makes sence with what the Crew has been saying they have been saying they will have to cut if Balchan comes back not when Arrieta becomes active. Maybe that will turn out not to be true and we'll see someone cut but I'm hoping not. I've been trying to figure out who would be safe in the DP scenario and who is for sure an international.

Here's who it seems should be on our international list.
    Bernardo Anor
    Jairo Arrieta
    Chris Birchall
    Shaun Francis
    Kevan George
    Sebastian Miranda
    Milovan Mirosevic
    Emilio Renteria
    Olman Vargas
    Nemanja Vukovic
Obviously this isn't right this would put us at ten, nine even right now we'd have to be cutting; so players that might not be on the list.

George he is listed as an international on the electronic media guide however he moved to the states when he was 12; he could be listed incorrectly.

Anor is strangely not listed as anything on this years roster, basically it says he's domestic last year it had him listed as international. Unless the FO found something out about Anor that would make him a domestic I have no idea why he isn't an international now.

Renteria is listed as having a green card, I thought for sure this was a mistake the first time I saw it. Tchani is right below him my assumption was they switched them as Tchani is listed as an international and he does have his green card.

At least one player can't be an international for someone to not be cut right now, two have to not be international for us not to have to cut someone when Arrieta becomes active. I'm trusting Jardy that two of the above are safe I just don't know who they are.

Complicated stuff. It will be interesting to see who they cut when (or if) the time comes and Brian Bliss brings more than a tan back from South America...

Vargas, Francis, and Birchall are the only guys I'd be okay cutting (and it won't be Birchall). I guess not knowing who to cut to bring in a DP is a good problem to have. Man, we're deep.

Tchani might also be a candidate for cutting. His performance overall this season has been poor, though against Chicago he looked better and may yet come good. We are deep 0n paper at the moment, but have a lot of fitness and injury problems.

I think the fact that we're mid-table instead of Toronto-table is a testament to our depth.

Deep? Maybe just in terms of coverage for position. Overall, I don't particularly think we're quality deep.

Did see this mentioned or discussed anywhere else so I figured I would post it here... Apparently Chad is back to exercising again after being symptom free for a week:

Sounds good, I'll be excited to see him again, and as the article states :

Thank you Jardy so here's our international list:

    Sebastian Miranda
    Shaun Francis
    Nemanja Vukovic
    Milovan Mirosevic
    Bernardo Anor
    Olman Vargas
    Jairo Arrieta
    Chris Birchall

Adam confirmed that Rent has his Green Card that puts James Tchani and Rent with Green Cards. It leaves Kevan unconfirmed but like I said he's been here since he was 12 I'm sure he has a Gren Card at the very least may be close to full fledged citizenship.

I would hope that at the very least Anor and Francis are working on it because they've been here a while and I'd hope they'd understand the value it brings to them as well as the safety it affords them.

We have two top-end MLS keepers. We have more solid defenders than any team in the league (Miranda, Marshall, James, Mendes, Williams, Balchan, O'Rourke, Vuko if I'm feeling generous). We have three midfielders that any team in the league would take (Duka, Gaven, Milo), and plenty of young talent there with Meram, Anor, Speas, and Finlay. Forward is our weak spot, but they've brought in Arrieta to address that and hopefully he pans out.

I can't think of another roster in the East as deep as ours. The top-end talent isn't there like it is for New York, LA, and Seattle, but we have a whole lot of good, MLS-starting caliber players on our team.

This is a very deep team. Any of these guys would be excellent trade bait. My guess is that the Crew would find a team that has an open Int'l slot and trade for a non-Int'l. So trade Anor to some one like Chivas. Then we would drop that player or probably Veeder (sorry Korey, I like you but you are the most expendable). Maybe the Crew would drop the player in the same position as the DP. Since I give us about a 10% chance of getting a DP, we probably will never have this problem.

In my mind, Schoenfeld and Urso are more expendable (maybe Grossman). Veeder plays at a position where we need someone groomed to be our future starter, and he's been in training for a few years now. Granted, it does look like the staff favor Perry over Veeder at this point.

I pretty much completely agree - but your post highlights an interesting point. The one thing that has been our big problem for a couple seasons now - forwards - is still a glaring weak spot. We've bought quite a few players in that position and so far none of them have done the job.

So while we have arguably got an excellent squad from keeper through midfield, we've still failed to address our most critical weakness from last season. At this point I'd gladly swap Wondo and Lenhart for all 8 of our forwards.

OK, with updates per Jardy, though he did neglect to mention James (whom I'm 99% sure has a Green Card) and Kevan George. Still listed in terms of salary, not position. And I don't have Arrieta on the roster yet, because, well, he isn't eligible to play. And I think we may have to make a decision on someone's future when he is cleared to play.

    I. Senior Roster/On Budget (SR): Players under Contract. 20/18-20, club's option. Salary Cap at $2.81 million + 2 on DL

Team can opt for only 18 players, but will still be charged a min amount per open roster spot below 18 towards the cap. DP's count $335,000 if not paid down via allocation $$. In season DP's count $167,500 against the cap (last season's numbers, I believe).

#. Position. Player, Nationality, Age, DOB, Roster Notes, '11 Salary Base/Guar.

    1. D Chad Marshall, USA, 27, 8-22-84, $310,000/$341,250
    2. M Milovan Mirosevic, Chile, 31, 6-20-80, International, $200,000/$223,333.33
    3. M Eddie Gaven, USA, 25, 10-25-86, $190,000/$195,000
    4. F Olman Vargas, Costa Rica, 27, 4-15-85, International, $170,000/$175,000
    5. D Sebastian Miranda, Chile, 31, 8-26-80, International, $135,000/$140,000
    6. M/D Danny O'Rourke, USA, 28, 5-31-83, $133,100/$145,600
    7. F Emilio Renteria, Venezuela, 27, 10-9-84, International, $132,000/$133,875
    8. M Dilaver Duka, USA, 22, 9-15-89, $110,000/$243,000
    9. D Nemanja Vukovic, Montenegro, 28, 4-13-84, International, $108,000/$125,500
    10. M Tony Tchani, Cameroon, 23, 4-13-89, Green Card, $105,000/$209,000
    11. D Carlos Mendes, USA, 31, 12-25-80, $103,084/$106,209
    12. M Chris Birchall, Trinidad & Tobago, 28, 5-5-84, International, $102,000/$109,000
    13. D Julius James, Trinidad & Tobago, 27, 7-9-84, Green Card, $100,000/$100,000
    14. GK Andy Gruenebaum, USA, 29, 12-30-82, $77,000/$78,666.67
    15. M/D Rich Balchan, USA, 23, 1-18-89, $51,700/$68,575
    16. M/F Justin Meram, USA, 23, 12-4-88, $46,200/$70,575
    17. M/F Ethan Finlay, USA, 21, 8-6-90, $44,000/$59,000
    ------------------
    18. D Shaun Francis, Jamaica, 25, 10-2-86, International, $44,100/$44,100
    19. D/M Josh Williams, USA, 24, 4-18-88, $44,100/$44,100
    20. M Bernardo Anor, Venezuela, 24, 5-24-88, International, $44,100/$44,100
    -------------------
IR1. GK William Hesmer, USA, 30, 11-23-81, $170,000/$181,000 (season ending IR)
    IR2. F Tom Heinemann, USA, 24, 4-23-87, $47,250/$47,250 (season ending IR)

If everyone was healthy, Meram would be #20, with Hesmer, Tommy, and Arrieta being 17-20, unless we cut someone above them.
    -----------------------------------------------

II. Exempt Roster/Off-Budget (ER): Spots 21-24. 4/4 filled. GA players. $44,000 Min.

No age restriction. No MAX salary? Up to two Homegrown Players can be singed to GA contracts. No limit on # of Homegrowns.

    21. F Ben Speas, USA, 21, 1-17-91, Homegrown, $58,000/$58,000 (GA?)
    22. F Aaron Horton, USA, 20, 5-19-92, Homegrown, $55,000/$70,500
    23. M Cole Grossman, USA, 23, 4-10-89, $44,100/$44,100
    24. D/M Eric Gehrig, USA, 24, 12-15-87, $44,000/$44,000

I'd put Gehrig here, but his salary from last year was too low, so I went with Schoenfeld and Grossman instaed. Aaron was starting until he got hurt, and Grossman still makes the 18. Again, determined by the salaries and possibly age.
    -------------------------------------------------------

III. Apprentice Roster/Off Budget (AR): Spots 25-30. 10/6. $32,600 Min.

Players making $33.75 must be under 25 in 2012 (Do not turn 25 in 2012). Spots 29-30 can be left open and the club can receive $35k per slot in allocation money. No indication of a MAX salary here, so players on this roster could make MORE than $33.75k as long as they meet the age requirement.

    25. D Korey Veeder, USA, 20, 10-13-91, $44,000/$45,875
    26. GK Matt Lampson, USA, 22, 9-6-89, Homegrown, $44,000/$44,000
    27. D Aubrey Perry, USA, 21, 1-20-91, $33,750/$33,750
    28. M Kevan George, Trinidad & Tobago, 22, 1-30-90, $33,750/$33,750
    29. M Kirk Urso, USA, 22, 3-6-90, $33,750/$33,750
    30. F Aaron Schoenfeld, USA, 22, 4-17-90, $33,750/$33,750
    -----------------------

    IV. Injured Reserve/Disabled List; 31-32

IR1. GK William Hesmer, USA, 30, 11-23-81, $170,000/$181,000 (season ending IR)
    IR2. F Tom Heinemann, USA, 24, 4-23-87, $47,250/$47,250 (season ending IR)
    -----------------------------

    V. International Slots. 8 of 8. Teams start w/ 8, they can be traded.

Julius James (Trinidad & Tobago), Tony Tchani (Cameroon), and Emilio Renteira (Venezuela) have Green Cards, and do not count as International Players.

    1. D Sebastian Miranda, Chile, On Budget Roster
    2. M Milovan Mirosevic, Chile, On Budget Roster
    3. D Nemanja Vukovic, Montenegro, On Budget Roster
    4. F Olman Vargas, Costa Rica, On Budget Roster
    5. M Chris Birchall, Tinidad & Tobago, On Budget Roster
    6. M/F Jairo Arrieta, Costa Rica, On Budget Roster
    7. D Shaun Francis, Jamaica, On Budget/Exempt Roster (could be either)
    8. M Bernardo Anor, Venezuela, On Budget/Exempt Roster (could be either)
    ------------------------------------
?. M Kevan George, Trinidad & Tobago, Off-Budget/Apprentice Roster (assuming GC or some weird roster rule I don't know about).

Props to Jardy for his update, though he did forget to mention James and George. I'm assuming both have Green Cards. James I'm 99% sure on, because that's how he was listed last year. And as a poster has pointed out, George has been here since he was 12.

Figured I'd see what I could find on this guy; looks like he's gotten 2 goals in 3,117 minutes of play he either has no assists or no one has bothered listing them. He's around 5'11" can't seem to find weight for him though he doesn't look slight. Played full time in one of his teams Europa League games where they lost 3-0 the next played 78 minutes they won 2-0 nither goal was his Europa League doesn't credit him with an assist either. Certainly doesn't seem like anything better than what we have and he is an international so we'd have to cut more I doubt he makes it but good luck to him.

He'd have to be significantly better than Veeder and Perry to stick around.

He has the INT tag so he has to displace one of:
    Sebastian Miranda
    Shaun Francis
    Nemanja Vukovic
    Milovan Mirosevic
    Bernardo Anor
    Olman Vargas
    Jairo Arrieta
    Chris Birchall

Right, and in order to be worth it, he would have to be a lot better than Perry or Veeder, who are the current heirs apparent to old man Miranda.

He doesn't suit up at defender very often for club or country; he is primarily a midfielder getting most of his minutes on the wing.

Just what we need is another winger who doesn't score or get assists.

Yep I doubt he makes the team likely not good enough to pump Anor for the INT spot; as far as right mid goes we have Gaven, Finlay, and Birchall that could all see time there. If all of them were out Duka could go right and Meram could play on the left. Speas and Anor are both options outside. Apparently George and Grossman are being used outside more often now; and Urso was almost used there before he got injured. Urso spent a week in training on the wing but never played there in a game. Yeah he's got a lot of people to beat out to be worth an INT spot.

Good I hope he passes Francis on the LB depth chart; I like Anor more than Francis. The reason I had him as the first one out the last few posts was because I figured some might value Francis more as a LB.

Side note: watched some Strikers games Lance Laing is pretty good; I would have kept him over Francis.
