Congrats Montreal on your first MLS win! Must have been even sweeter against an old rival. Have a good season...
Reading the toronto thread after the fact was good for a laugh. Toronto is the absolute most miserable sports city in all of north america
They accept mediocrity and buy into the bullshit fed to them by their owners. Here in Montreal, we're upset if they keep a coach on the team for too long with bad results, even if he's a legend for the club. All it would take is for them to start pressuring their owners(actual pressure, not polite disagreement). What are they waiting for, their 10th year in existence before they have a good team?
Toronto may be a terrible sports city, but Montreal fans are pretty horrible as well. I'm surprised no one lost their mind over Marsch not speaking French.
You didn't hear his quick interview with RDS right after the game? The sideline reporter asked him a question in English, and Marsch surprised him by replying in francais (for a bit). Baby steps...
The expectation for speaking french exists only for hockey, because its the national game and is part of the self identity of the french "nation". Especially since there are many prominent french speaking players and coaches around the NHL to lust after. No one really cares that most of the FO, staff and roster of the Montreal Alouettes don't speak french, because there is no expectation for them to do so, same goes for the impact. Not to say that French is not appreciated, Bernier is the face of the team for this exact reason, and Marsh injecting some french makes him a very popular man. But its not reasonable to expect a decent soccer or football team to be rostered and coached by a predominantly french speaking team , and the people know and accept this.
Nice to see Lamar Neagle contributing. Once he's comfortable over there won't be surprised to see him making a difference for you guys. He's got decent pace, good nose for the ball, and a wicked shot. Works hard. Also great to see the support come out. Good luck this season.
One rather incredible example might be your Bob Bradley ... he uses assistants to talk to Egypt's players I think?
Yes, but that's been fairly typical in international soccer. Gus Hiddink never learned Korean or Russian beyond a few basic phrases.
Ives has Wenger as the rookie of week. Have to admit that I was impressed by his game winner on Saturday. Hope to see more of it in the near future. SBI MLS Rookie of the Week
It's kinda weird because I think Neagle's a better finisher and passer than Nyassi. But Nyassi plays...
Donovan Ricketts nominated for Save of the Week For a second time in three weeks, Impact goalkeeper has been nominated the save of the week, following a solid display against Toronto FC over the weekend. Ricketts pulled an acrobatic save on a Danny Koevermans point-blank header to maintain the 1-0 lead. VOTE for Donovan Ricketts (http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/04/10/vote-save-week-week-5) Voting runs until 11:59 pm PT on Thursday.
Congratulations to the Impact on their first win. Personally, I think it took a few breaks going Montreal's way to let it happen, but that's sports for you. I look forward to the Voyageur's Cup matches!
