Nick Sabetti: Impact look to continue history of Montreal dominance over Toronto The Montreal Impact will take on Toronto FC Saturday at Olympic Stadium for the first time in MLS. A win is a must for both, but they also have something to prove. While the Montreal Impact will be locking horns with Toronto FC for the very first time in league play on Saturday, the soccer history between Montreal and Toronto, though an intermittent one, goes back forty years. And when it comes to soccer between the two metropolises, Montreal has been dominant. The numbers speak for themselves. Since 1971, Montreal and Toronto have played in the same soccer league 16 times. Of those 16 seasons, Montreal finished ahead of Toronto on 11 occasions. http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/1589...i-impact-look-to-continue-history-of-montreal
im so excited for this game.. im just hoping that a lot of people are going.. it would really suck for the big o to be half empty....
Some wag recently referred to this as the Swiss Chalet / St. Hubert derby. So it's not just soccer supremecy at stake here, it's also about supremecy in rotisserie chicken. That said, glad we finally have this derby truly going. With the Leafs and Habs both being complete and utter crap, we need something to keep the 401/A20 rivalry going.
Well as usual the Canadiens are doing better than the Leafs. They will almost assuredly receive a higher draft pick this summer.
Well, marketing for the game has been non existent, so I don't expect 58K like the home opener. Although we could have reached that attendance with some good advertisement. I wonder who the Impact's marketing director is, cause I think he got his marketing degree from a cracker jack box.
It’s a numbers game: Impact could surprise its Canadian rivals. Statistics giving slight edge to Montreal Montreal Impact – Toronto FC Saturday, April 7, 2012, 12pm (ET) Olympic Stadium, Montreal, Quebec Television: TSN/RDS and is available on illico Mobile MONTREAL, Quebec – Following three consecutive games on the road, the Montreal Impact (0-4-1) is back home to play its second game of the season at Olympic Stadium, this Saturday, against its Canadian rival Toronto FC (0-3-0). Can't help but look at this game as No offense meets No defense. TFC's CBs are horrible. They've kept Harden around for 3 yrs and he's started over 40 games for him. On any other team he'd be a back up. For the other CB they have basket of rookies to pick from. I don't think Cann is ready to play, is he? So this will be an interesting one.
Neither Mapp, Bernier, or Arnaud starting? I don't get it. Hope he knows what he's doing. Lineup shakeup. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2012-04-07-mtl-v-tor/formation
Dunfield gives the ball up and the guy whose name I can't spell scores! Ubiparivobic. In MLS teams are as strong as their weakest links and TFC has some really weak ones on defense.. 1-0 MTL ... Nyassi such a difference maker.
Emory sent off, for taking out a guy from behind.. later Wenger scores .. one on one with Harden (that's always very promising) and then it deflected over to Wenger. Looking good. Good game by Felipe, Ferrari. About Bernier ... apparently Marsch was saying Bernier needs to adjust to MLS from the European game .. which means, not sitting back as much I believe. 2-0 MTL ... 85th minute..
My Gullible tendencies strike again. But you should do it. 1. It's one of your clubs. 2. There's nothing to moderate! I mean seriously, no one ever comes over here.
Since you asked nicely Seriously though, how nice to beat Toronto for our first win. Almost makes up for the New York game.
They've showed some poise along the way. PKs have done them in. The NY game was bad, but they actually deserved the lead in that game in the first half. They looked completely neutralized in the RSL game tho. But TFC is no RSL. I'm not surprised they won today.
I was sitting next to the away section and it was lovely to watch all of their hopes and dreams crushed.
