Re: Texas Hold 'Em i prefer pokerstars.... but ferguson guy knows how to play agressive and stiff.... im that type of player but its predictable how you play without someone telling your bluffing.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em So I'm in a 50 dollar Sit and Go last night on Bodog (Only reason I use Bodog is that from the same account I can use the sportsbook), and in the second hand, AK suited falls to me. Now, I hate this hand with a passion. So I hope someone can raise so I can come over the top. Under the gun raises, and their are two re-raises in front of him. So I go all in, which kind of gives away the hand I have. The initial raise calls, and the two re-raises fold. What does the guy have? Jack 4 offsuit. Of course he's going to go runner-runner 4 on me on the turn and river. Even though I hit my Ace on the flop. I've been catching some really ************ cards lately, so I'm mainly betting B-ball games to get my roll back up. Every time I've gone up to 350 in winnings, I never win or cash in a tournament and I have to grind my way back up to 300. It's fixed, I tell you.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em Just started playing again. Problem is, because of Alex Rodriguez and Phil Hellmuth, I have nowhere to play in New York City anymore. So it's online now, since most of my friends I played with are away at college. Ah well.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em I recently heard there is some software out there that people can buy for a pretty penny that lets them see at least one of every opponent's hold cards. Is that true? And how problematic is it playing on line as far as cheating, etc.?
Re: Texas Hold 'Em Not true. That advertise this way, but it only shows those cards when there is a showdown (afterwards) - which you can see anyway in the hand history.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em Most sites monitor your computer while you are playing to make sure you aren't using any cheating software. The only thing to worry about would be collusion, but that's a problem whether you play live or not. Plus, sites look to smash collusion, especially if their are complaints from other players.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em I just lost a pre flop all in with Pocket Aces, and the two other guys were holding AK and KK. Those are the types of hands you dream you can call an all in with, and I lose.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em Played a free-roll last night for fun, and placed 4th out of 762. The downside of that is, I barely stayed awake in Micro today.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em What was the take? I recently chopped with 2 other guys in a 255 person limit tournament. Best I've ever done in that big of a tourney.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em Only 110. Couldnt justify staying up from 10 to 215 just for that amount, though. I'm tired as hell now, long day of class, and all because of that tourney.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em Hey guys, just found this thread, nice to find other people who enjoy both soccer and poker. You might check out http://www.talkingpoker.com, it's a nice 'small' poker advice/news/smacktalking site, the owner final-tabled a minor WSOP event last year (ran concurrently with the Main Event), and has already won a seat for this year's ME. As for myself, I've been shopping around for bonuses most of the time, but I'm trying to consolidate my play at a site or two with the juiciest games. Mostly UB at the moment working off the current 100% reload bonus, trying to get more money on Party when I can.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em Regarding poker related sites I'd recommend http://www.pokerdiagram.com - it's a site run by a couple of guys I've been playing regular friday nights with for the last 15 years or so and they upload a podcast (approx 1 hour in length) every week or so where one plays and the other critiques. Some good banter and worthwhile analysis.....
Re: Texas Hold 'Em I don't play online. Only live in local casinos. I have given up playing the $2/4 games, small stakes, etc because it's just waiting to see who will catch their flush or straight on the river and bust my set. Not interested. I have played a couple times in the $100 buy-in no-limit cash game. To me, it's a fair representation of a person's ability, and yet still has more than enough fish. I would categorize myself as super tight-aggressive. I am willing to fold when I know I'm beat, even if the pot odds would hint at a call. I talk up the table and try to draw people out of their "I wear sunglasses and am gonna act tough" routines, so when I do lay down a hand, they'll usually share with me what they beat me with. It helps later.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em Couldn't agree more. Went to Vegas last month and could barely break even on the 2/4 tables, but when I went to Mandalay Bay and started playing 4/8 w/Half Kill, I started winning. Even on 4/8 though, you will still get run over by the draws, just not as much as 2/4.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em At least you can make people think twice on a draw in 4/8. Still, no limit is the way to go for me. My buddy said he played on no-limit $40 buy-in tables in Vegas on non-weekend days. That would be the best of all worlds.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em Some no-limit tables are just as wild as low limit tables. Some places, HUGE (10x BB) preflop raises are needed just to get people to think about folding. No fold 'em hold 'em is can be found in many places. I've also found some good, very low limit hold 'em online as well as some casinos. Limit poker gets a bad rep. It's not easier or less skillful that no limit; it's just different.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em I find limit to be much more frustrating than no-limit, because you often can't bet enough in large pots to price people out of draws, even when you raise an early position bettor so that the guy behind you, who is obviously drawing, would have to cold call two big bets. It puts a premium on big suited cards and other drawing hands over top pair/top kicker, an overpair, or even middle pair if there are no other big pairs out there. IMO it takes a very different skillset to play limit vs no limit. Limit is very much a game of subtleties (betting for a free card, raising when you know you're likely second best, etc), while naked aggression can win you a lot of pots in NLHE. Then again, I suck at both forms.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em This is all true, but so is the reverse, in that it's harder for other people to push you off your draws and middle pair hands.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em True. You can win a lot of money in LHE playing hands like KQs, KJs and QJs in almost any position. Hands like that in NLHE can cost you a lot of money, particularly since people in low stakes games will call virtually any preflop raise with Ax.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em I set a goal two weeks ago to buy an HD TV for the World Cup strictly by playing SnGs on Party Poker. I've been CRUSHING them ($11/$22/$33 mostly 6-handed) for a 100% ROI - finishing in the money 64% of the time. I'm about halfway to my new HD TV. I put a big sign above my desk that says "NO CASH GAMES!", so I don't piss away my recent bankroll.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em Do you think the SnGs are that much softer than the cash games? Is Party as soft as they say it is?
Re: Texas Hold 'Em And I'm the exact opposite. A month ago, I needed to deposit money into my account for the first time in a year. I was still doing horribly at the tournaments, but winning in cash games, so I stopped playing tournaments on May 1. I've have since won back half of my deposit, with only two losing sessions (one of which was an experiment in playing looser) all month. And I'm playing really well right now.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em I'm not sure if that's the case, but I'm just much better at SnGs. I'm very, very aggressive in SnGs and I don't play the same way playing NL. And with Limit, I'm maybe TOO aggressive.
Re: Texas Hold 'Em Are you playing Limit and No-limit? Any way, good luck getting your HDTV funded. Sounds like you're on your way. Meanwhile, I'm going to keep grinding away at micro stakes.
