OK, we have now had more than enough time to judge two of the biggest signings of the summer. My question is simple: Who has impressed you the most, Carlos or Fernando? Personally, i'd have to say Torres, even though i'm a United fan. See, no blind loyalty here.
I think United needed a pure goal scorer rather than a multi purpose type player. Torres is going to put the ball into the net. Often. Tevez will win the ball, create an opportunity or finish one. That said United had that, a few times over while Tevez and Rooney looks like it might be beginning to work, I think Torres and Rooney with Ronaldo on the wing would of had the rest of the BPL frightened.
I think they're both at the same level of development in their4 careers. Torres is easier to judge than Tevez because he scores more goals, where as Tevez is not a true number 9, but more of an all round attacker. So far Torres has impressed me. Had it not been for his managers infernal rotation policy he may have scored more, but Benitez is not playing it straight with him. Why did he pay £20m+ for a player who he doesn't want to start all the time? Torres so far but Tevez is undoubtedly happier at the moment.....
Since theyre both strikers you can only compare them by looking at their goals and assisits so imo till now Torres is the better signing.
The most single minded view I've come across in a while. Andy Cole scored more career goals than Roberto Baggio and George Weah, does that make him a better player? Frank Lampard scored more career goals than Hristo Stoitchkov, does that make him a better player? No of course it doesn't. Judging players by their scoring alone is a pointless waste of time and not really taking into account what they contribute to the team. I've seen strikers contribute nothing to a game apart from a last minute winning goal, but by your reckoning they've have contributed more than the centre-back or winger who toiled for 90 minutes to keep that a possibility? Torres scores more goals because he is a more direct player. Tevez is a ore with drawn striker who plays deeper and brings players into the play. Formthe record their scoring records read as follows: Player Apps. Goals Goals/games Torres 222 86 2.58 Tevez 147 59 2.49 There really isn't much of a difference in their games/goals ratio's. Make of it what you like. I'm happy with Tevez at Man Utd but I'm sure Liverpool fans are more than happy wth their acquisition of Torres....
Tevez was thrown into the side without a pre-season. Regardless, I'd rather wait until next year to see how they have both adapted to their new teams. By next year I mean Jan.
Tevez had a season in the EPL to adjust....Torres has come in all guns blazing. For me Torres without a doubt the better signing. In all honesty, I wanted Tevez over Torres, now I'm with Torres all the way. He'll be the better player looking back.
Silly question IMO. I've great affection for United, but Torres is undoubtedly more impressive this season so far. Not only has he scored more goals, he just radiates class. Tevez hasn't played as much as Torres, so maybe it's too soon to judge. But God, Torres has incredible pace, balance, can finish superbly, the guy's a class act. Tevez has been energetic and willing so far this season, and scored two goals. Big deal, you could say the same for Grant Leadbitter!
Personally I agree with Teso. Given how the season has gone and taking into consideration the pre-season I think it's a touch early. Posted by AussieLFCfan. Hmmmmmmm? Wonder why that is... Tevez will improve with time. I'm sure he'll get better. He didn't have the most ideal preparation or summer given the Copa America and then the contract dispute. Torres look class though. Infact, he looks everybit as good as I said he would. I had a huge argument with an Arsenal fan once because I said he was a class act and he said that he had never played in Europe so he couldn't be A flawed argument I thought but sti9ll, I think I've been vindicated.....
Yeah rotation...Torres has started 4 games from the bench (2 of which were when he was coming back from 2 seperate injuries)...so he has started 2 games from the bench...Portsmouth and Birmingham. So who told you about his rotation policy...let me guess...the Daily Mail That last statement is the most stupid statement ive seen on BS in a year. And who told you that Torres was unhappy? Let me guess...the Daily Mail again
So Torres arrived at Liverpool around the 5th July and had an ankle injury for 3 weeks...great preperation
Let's examine how Tevez prepared for this season. 1. Finished playing for West Ham 2. Went straight to Copa America 3. Unable to train with the club because of the transfer farce 4. Then thrown straight into the side because of injuries 5. Has played ever since There is a clear difference.
tevez could play more better.. he's game es based on physical potence so, its a shame he couldnt make a good pre-season... but as you can see ferguson and basile're giving him rest of games.. when he play on boca or corinthians he was perfect and the defenders couldnt reach him when he start running i'm not a boca fan but i love tevez courage and determination for playing
One is only a loan signing of course, but I would prefer Tevez. Then again, I would. Both are great players, but only one is ugly and great. That's my man.
I said Torres in my first post and i'd have to stick with that. I'm happy with Tevez, but Torres has just been awesome this season. United missed a trick in not signing him.
Torres is the best striker in Europe at the moment (or at least one of them) so at the moment he's the standout player. Tevez has been a great signing for us though and has popped up with some vitally important goals. He's our second highest scorer and just because Torres is making headlines does not mean that Tevez is not a quality player. I'm 100% happy with him being at us. You might find that most Man Utd fans might argue that they'd rather have Tevez simply because he has fitted in at our club quite well....
Torres is certainly the top newcomer to the Premiership this season, nudging out Elano (who's faded a bit). Given the relative failure rate of big money forwards their first year, he's been even more striking. Tevez is a stud in his own right, and was a no brainer, since he'd had his year to acclimate to the Premiership. I rate him more highly overall than Torres, but since he occupies the same real estate as Rooney, he hasn't been quite the force as Torres.
