Yup. Qualifying is a CONCACAF competition, not a FIFA competition.

As long as Boyd hasn't broken into the Dortmund first team (due to an injury crisis or whatever)..........he'll most likely be available for qualifying.

I see this USMNT callup as a sign that his spot on the qualifying roster is already locked down. Hence other players are gonna be tested against the Mexico U23s.

Boyd scored his 12th of the season for Dortmund II today in a 2-0 win over erstwhile Regionalliga West leaders Sportfreunde Lotte.

I've been thinking, surely the plan with Boyd should be to get him a loan next season right? He's had one season with Dortmund getting some coaching, and looks in the first team, etc. I think the best thing for him would be a loan to a relegation candidate and test him. I don't follow German football close enough to say for certain but it doesn't seem like they loan as much as other leagues.

That's not necessarily true. It depends on the team. Some clubs may not loan players out to lower division sides because they already have a reserve team playing in a high enough league.

I could be completely wrong but I always got the impression that if a Bundesliga club loans you out, chances are likely you are out the door permanently. I've sensed they rarely do the "developmental" (if you wanna all that) loans. That's kind of the design of the Regionaliga.

It's always a good thing when a striker strikes. Is there a link to the rosters for both teams? I would love to know the personnel for both teams.

Best case scenario is he'll become the 3rd choice striker behind Lewandowski and Barrios or whoever replaces him for next year. Even if Boyd continues to score in the reserves and has a good Olympics there is no way a team as good as Dortmund will give an unproven prospect a bunch of field time barring a rash of injuries

He is a left back, and he is Polish, and as of May of last year he was close to being American.

I'm thinking he hasn't got his citizenship yet judging by the fact that he hasn't gotten invited to any Olympic camps.

Barrios is sick and can't travel with the team to Augsburg. Despite this, apparently still no Boyd in the squad.

I though Boyd had left to join the US u23s, but apparently not as he scored for Dortmund II today.

And Dortmund will sign another striker if that happens.

No chance for Boyd to at least make the bench more often?

Dortmund are an elite level club. Boyd will either need to reach that level himself or the club are going to find someone who is there already. He's probably not there yet.
