Right. But Boyd should still be ahead of Ducksch at the moment. And the rest is up to them to convince Klopp in training.
BVB play some team I've never heard of in the German Cup today. I wonder if there is a chance Boyd makes the 18. Game is on ESPN3.
it's a 4th league team (German champion of 1912) that eliminated two 2nd Bundesliga (Duisburg & Cottbus) teams as well as Mainz 05. While it might normally be a good game to introduce Boyd, there might also be the chance that he won't be in the squad at all. He couldn't train the last days due to a minor injury and Dortmund have a history of cup failures against small teams, so they will definitely take this game serious since they're only 3 wins away from the cup.
Holstein Kiel's co-leading scorer is Marc Heider, actually, a German-American formerly of Werder Bremen II
They were actually one of the biggest clubs in German pre-WWII soccer (ranking above Bayern, Dortmund, Bremen, Stuttgart, etc.). Their record from 1903 to 1945: German champions: 1x German vice-champions: 2x Top 4 in German championship: 8x Top 8 in German championship: 11x Dortmund didn't make the top 8 even once before WWII.
Boyd scored what turned out to be the winning goal from the spot for the 2nd team. Wooten also scored for FCK II in the match.
Postcard from Europe: Terrence Boyd "[Dortmund] are the German champs, so the level is so high," Boyd explained. "It's not that I have to work on certain things — I have to make it better on every facet and specific skill. "Personally, I've been working more on technique. But when you train with [Barrios and Lewandowski], it just makes you better — or when you train against Neven Subotić, a real high-class defender," he added.
Wow! A definite surprise there. I thought he was scheduled to arrive stateside today for the U-23's. Even though it's an international date I wonder if Dortmund said "hey stay here your time is next" which prompted Klinsmann to get a look while in Europe. interested to get the scoop.
In a sense, the various US national teams are really one team, Boyd is probaly good enough to have a look with the mens NT. Really no reason for him to fly to the US when he can participate in Europe
No guarantee we see him or that he even makes the 18. This call up seems similiar to Morales call up..... Dont think we see him. Of course I could be wrong and hope I am.
It's exactly like the Morales callup. The USSF is getting a lot more aggresive in calling up these dual nationals, even if they haven't broken into the first team yet. Why fly an MLS player all the way to Italy to be the last man on the bench? Might as well give a young Euro a little exposure to the team.
I'd have to think he gets to at least dress for the game. Otherwise, what sense does it make for him not to continue to gel with Olympic team?
This is interesting, because the u-23 call up is actually important to that team as it gets ready for Olympic qualifying and those players learn to play together. Perhaps this is a way of saying that we are not planning on Boyd being available for qualifying. I'm not sure . . .
There are a few spots with the Olympic squad that are up from grabs and Boyd's spot is not one of them. He does has experience with the current squad so it's not like he'd go into the Qualifiers unfamiliar with his teammates. A gamble? A little bit but an opportunity with the full team is worth more in the long run.
The Olympics are an official FIFA competition I believe. I think they must release the players of the players want to go, right?
