An interview with Rapid Vienna coach Peter Schöttel. Seems to be rather vague, stating that nothing is finalized yet and that Boyd is only one candidate being observed. Perhaps a German speaker can give us some of the finer points:

Schöttel: "Auch Rapid muss sich mal hinten anstellen"

    * they still want him
    * Dortmund's priority was getting the Kagawa deal done
    * They watched him play 3 times for the Dortmund reserves
    * They like his potential and robustness but think he's far from being the finished product
    * The deal is not done yet and could still go up in smoke

    Highlight for Euro [R]...

A former Rapid striker scored for Croatia today. Let's hope that Boyd can replicate Jelavic's success.

And here's a piece on his signing from Austrian website Sport 10. Any chance a German speaker could give us a translation of the quotes from Boyd?

    Boyd: Flugticket nach Wien gebucht

Also, is it time to start a new thread?

Nikica Jelavic two years ago was playing for Rapid Vienna.

He can get what he wants at Vienna if he works hard.

    The interesting snips:
The deal was more or less done for some time, but Klinsmann et al didn't want any distractions during the qualifier camp.
"The last weeks have been very interesting and helpful to me. There's much to learn for me at the USMNT. I realize that in every session with or against players like Donovan, Dempsey or Howard...
The league is very attractive, and held in high regards in Germany. (Lascho: I guess he's being polite.) I think it's a good place for a young player to improve..." Blah, blah, blah; the usual stuff.
Rapid seemed to look for a physical goal threat since Jelavic left.
Austria's clubs aren't used to the international schedule of CONCACAF countries. "We have to come to agreements, but the coaching staff is very flexible anyway." Andreas Herzog might an important part in that; and it was him who arranged the deal.

Sweet. At least he'll have a chance to play more. Austrian first has to be better than German 4th.

Boyd is raw, but the potential is there.

Austria is a good place to build his game. Not the best league but not the worst. Rapid is a decent club and Boyd can excel there. He needs to figure out what type of striker he will be.

Anybody want to start a new Boyd thread now that he's moved?

I went to Rapid games for a season back in 2005/2006. Frankly, I said I hope he gets out as soon as possible. Rapid and Salzburg are maybe better than MLS level, but the rest aren't.
