I'm amazed that nobody has posted this...

But its been ten years since that '02 team beat Italy and the ten year anniversary of Spain on Friday.

I still get chill still from recalling waking up so early (was in SF at the time) and experiencing one of the greatest sports memories of my life.

Thanks to ESPN's Kwakaflocka for reminding me. I guess I was surprised nobody mentioned at the 10 yr anniversary of the start of the WC.

Ok. I'm going to have to bunker down this weekend and watch these matches in full again with the benefit of hindsight. I'm thinking in particular about PJS.... and LCS.

Any of you guys remember the bidding process? I remember it like it was yesterday, still remember thinking we'd win the sole right to host it. I have a sticker I put on my floppy disk drive container next to my computer back in the day that advertised our bidding process ... gonna go find it ..

Some Italians are still butthurt but those videos are posted 95% by the Japanese. The other 5% by Taiwanese. Italians really don't care as much as they used to as they won the 2006 WC and Spain won the 2010 WC. Spain imo were robbed by us but they show sportsmanship unlike the Italians.

Lee Eul Yong's penalty miss [IMG]
Didn't Ahn miss a penaltly against Italy too? [IMG]

Pauleta missing a 1v1 against LWJ in the portugal match. Vieri missing a wide open goal in the 90th minute in the Italy match. I forgot the Spanish players name but he had a legitimate header disallowed (im not talking about the cross by Joaquin). We were damned lucky.

didn't LWJ give up midway cos the whistle had been blown already? seemed like that way back than...looking back at the clip now I'm sure he would have saved that if it was called fair

    Yeah. Two penalty misses.

We actually have a horrible record with penalties IIRC.

yeah we need a master tactician with balls. I was listening to Hiddink's analysis and advice of our 2010 world cup squad and what he had to say about the Argentine game especially. He was spot on about needing to attack a team like Argentina and not trying to defend looking like chumps. If only our Korean coaches ever had the brains or balls like Hiddink. Hiddink planned on that draw against Spain and had our boys practicing spot kicks. What a master tactician.

Was in Korea this past week and they were showing these games on TV. Saw portions of games against the U.S. and Spain. Even 10 years later, they were special. I miss that team.
