Perhaps my memory is hazy, but didn't NBC's telecast of the 2000 Olympic football tournament break into commercial?

MY mom just made a chilling prophesy while watching the panamerican games. It would suck if telemundo would spend all this money and have to hire fernando Schwartz due to a lack of announcers

this! the Azteca crew are my favorite

I'm just glad that in the 2018 WC and beyond we don't have to listen to the pair of morons from Univision anymore

in regards to Univision losing out to the WC rights, I quote that dumbass Pablo Ramirez - "se la perdioooooooo" :D

Fantastic news! (I literally did a celebratory fist-pump)

Univision and TVAzteca are shit. But Univision moreso than TVAzteca though.

This also means that I'll be able to watch mis Chivas whooping your asses on Telemundo in HD in the very near future. *fist-pump*

    Telemundo > Cubavision

the only thing Univision has over Telemundo is the image quality of games. Telemundo gets that fixed and we are set!

at least the coverage and pre-game stuff will be a lot more professional and informative. won't have to put up with Cubavision's crap.

They can't be any more dependent on their relationship with Televisa, can they?

Anyway, the next thing to look out for are the qualifiers. Does anyone know how long the contracts El Tri have with TeleUnivMunVisionDo are for?

Pretty sure that the WC and Qualifiers rights are 2 different things

I think that Univision will still have the rights for Mexico's qualifying games and friendlies

Well the rights for the quals have to be up for bid sometime in the future, I do not know how long the current deal is, but perhaps in 4-8 years (or sooner) Telemundo could out bid Univision for the rights to the qualification games.

Univision gets Mexico's home qualifiers (for 2014) and Telemundo gets the away qualifers (except vs USA).

Thanks for the info. Basically, it means El Tri will go back to the market right after 2013 or thereabouts, right? That should be the next major rights battle to come. I would think Telemundo will even fight for the rights to show the visit to the U.S. of A for the cycle after this coming one.

For that to happen they would have to buy the rights for the USANT quals.

Remember Telemundo is an American company so Univision having the American rights for the USA means they (Univision) show the game (USA-MEX).
