A week before the transfer I doubt anyone was thinking about signing Robben. Van Gaal is typically not a star signing coach. FO already signed Gomez and Baumjohann, LvG already added Pranjic and Braafied and promoted Muller and Badstuber. IMO he was ready to go into the season with those players. It happened within a few hours nothing planned before that. Window closing Madrid made it clear they had no need for the 2 Dutch. Bayern already struggling.
