I know, I walked by Sauerkraut the other day in the grocery store and got really sad and nostalgic. So yesterday we met up with some of our friends for dinner and they served a burger with Sauerkraut on it. That was a no-brainer :) It was GOOOOOOD!!!

You interested in my Oma's braised Sauerkraut recipe? It tastes just as good as the stuff out of the barrel in Bayern.

I eat sauerkraut at least once a week here in southern Brazil. Well, I live in a city called Neu Hamburg, so it probably has some relation...

We hijacked it for the better ;)

    Braised Sauerkraut:

    Ingredients:

1 Jar of sauerkraut (34 oz).
    1 onion diced
    2 slices of bacon diced
    1 tsp caraway seeds
    15 juniper berries
    salt and pepper to taste
    1/4 cup dry white wine
    1/4 cup chicken stock
    1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 potato peeled and grated (or 1 tbs of flour if you are lazy).

    Directions:
First make sure you have real Sauerkraut. If the ingredients includes anything but Cabbage and Salt, then its not the real deal. I like Kuhne and Gundelsheim personally, but they may not be available in your area. If you can't find the real stuff, make sure you rinse it before using it in order to remove the vinegar taste.

    1. Empty the sauerkraut into a colander and let some of the liquid drain off (if using the fake stuff with vinegar this is the time to rinse it). Good sauerkraut need only be drained.
    2. Heat a couple tablespoons of oil in a heavy bottomed pot.
    3. add onions and fry over medium-med. high heat for 5 minutes.
    4. add all remaining ingredients and stir to combine.
    5. reduce heat to a simmer and cook uncovered for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

I put a couple of edits in just now (basically to stir occasionally while it simmers).

Why are we insistent on moving alaba???

He has been the biggest revelation on bayern last year and we actually solved our fullback problem PLUS hes very young PLUS he's very talented PLUS PLUS he's having great dynamic with ribbery...

So why are we moving him? Just to flood the already flooded midfield.. Then we have to find a top class LB...

Does anyone know where we can buy one??

Alaba is perfect for that spot, he can have the freedom to run back and forth helping ribbery out on the left.

Haha, I think Alaba is too good to be groomed to play at LB. Right now this is our solution but I don't know for the future.

Fullbacks are only talked about as the most important position on the field in modern futbol. They are real game deciders. At least from the tactical standpoint they are the piece on the filed that can break down defenses and are also crucial in preventing goals.

The responsibilities of a FB nowadays are so much more than in the past. Lahm played a stellar game against England in Wembley as a DM but nobody was calling to convert him to that. It's easier to find someone with the right skill set to play DM/CM than FB.

LvG wanted to make him a LB and declared him to be the LB of the future. That guy know how to spot talent. That was never the issue. He was just shit at squad management.

I believe you gotta put your best 11 players on the field more often than not, and finding a spot for Alaba even at LB would be insane. He IMO has the ability to become a world-class LB, whereas becoming a world class midfielder is much harder.

Keep him at LB, finding left footed, strong, fast players that have good technique is NOT easy.

Alaba will play LB until Jupp leaves, but I doubt FO plans for him to be there long term. The way he is developing he could overtake Kroos or Gustavo at AM or CM respectively. Could also see him moving up to left winger to eventually replace Ribery once he starts to decline.

I think without LvG, we would never have been what we are today. We wouldn't have so much reason to keep dreaming. His reign as coach marked a radical change in Bayern Munich. Very radical. He put up all this system of players, assembled them and what we are doing now is strengthening our squad upon it.

I would agree with the LVG comments but take some exception to the 'strengthening of squad' comment. He found quality in the youth that has continued to be uncovered, yes, but the transfers he brought in were of little consequence to our current squad now. Everything else is spot on really.
Only change that has improved Bayern somewhat under Heynckes is our backline not pressing so high up the pitch and disallowing the counter as often as under LVG, who did little to strengthen or admit to needing strength in the backline if you remember.

Regarding Alaba, I believe that it is his promise that has helped Bayern cope with the unsigning of Martinez. This is my theory. No proof of it whatsoever.

Okay, yes, let's set this straight. He is a super-villain, has no heart, it's actually a mechanic device just to pump blood through his body.

I just heard that Uli came to his new office and asked about the progress on the signing of the Bomb Transfer he promised the fans and this is what was going through Sammer's head. True story ...

Won't it be kinda awkward when Petersen comes back from loan?

    Nevermind, answered by own question.

I think that the loan spell will be really good for him. He has lots of talent and a nose for goal. Pizarro will be gone when he comes back. Yet, he'll still be stuck behind 2 strikers.

Time will tell. Ideally, yes, he'll improve a lot at Bremen.

Then there will be an awkward Kroos-like situation where Bremen wants to buy him, etc. etc.
