..so...do we still debate on what colors we want?? lol cuz i think we kind of exhausted that notion awhile ago. Like i said before, if Wilpon does give us a team, 98% chance of the team having blue and orange as colors..thats cool i just dont wanna see Mets FC .. it will just turn out like RBNY..and I do not want that happening

This this thread is cleary just for fun.
We have no say in pretty much anything concerning the team.
I think it's a little more releveant now focusing on the Borough Boys
and ideas for our group since we actually have the ability to decide.

While I agree with you that its just for fun and that you have no say, I don't think there it's a complete waste of time. Don't think their not watching.

stlouissoccerunited's logo clearly reflects the elements and colors that were predominate in the designs on this board.

Wouldn't you agree that the Philly team is foolish if they don't go with yellow/blue?

Don't you remember the "accidental" posting of "Colorado Arsenal" and then we had two weeks of negative comments and you never saw the name.

Recently, it was "leaked" that Seattle was going with "Emerald City FC" and being called "the greens" - again, there has been a large negative response. I don't think you'll see anything other than Sounders coming out of Seattle.

So yes, it's fun and the owners will do what they want, but good owners will take the fans desires into consideration. [hopefully, they didn't take my brown/orange/green combo seriously].

Yea man - one thing about the MLS more than anyother league - they listen to their fans in one way or another. I think that is an awesome post by you!!!

Not only the boards but hopefully soon enough the Borough Boys will be the talk of the NY streets. The Sleeping Giant is being shook - ha ha!

Actually - remember the Mets - Cards series of 2000 - Piazza turned it up "The MOnster is out of his cage"

Somehow that's slipped my mind. ;)
But I do remember 2006 pretty well. :p

I figure I'll get it in while I can. The Mets are the class of the NL for 2008 and the Cards are going to come in 4th in the worst division in Baseball.

    Back on topic.

I like the Mets colors, and the black and white, and the green and yellow.
Personally, I hope they stay away from using "Cosmos" but I think that's a call for New Yorkers, not me.

Are you guys generally pro-cosmos or anti-cosmos?

we're split down the middle I believe.
    I'm anti-cosmos.
    I know NYC Cosmos...is ...mmmm...i forgot....:D

In the end, it won't really matter...but I for one
would like to see a brand new team with no name
    relation to the cosmos.
    But that's just me.
I kinda hate the colors too.

I dont want the team to be called Cosmos but I think they should be honored with color scheme or something. Its a new league and a new tradition but honor the past in a smaller way

Ahemmmmm (clearing my throat and looking at Kings)

I would like to chime into this conversation. I love the Cosmos name and tradition because they are my NYC team since I was little. They were actually my first soccer team.

Concering whether the team should be named the Cosmos, well I would have to say I would love that idea. I would also push for it as well. BUT and this is important, I would not turn into into a bigger issue than it is. If the name is something else the most important objective is a team and then we will worry about naming it AFTER we have it. So kings, after we have the name, we can go at it caged MMA style! hahahhahaha Remember I'm older and bigger than you so dont think that you will have it easy ok! lol

With regards to the jersey I always preferred the white jersey with the blue and yellow trim. Those were the classic jerseys to me. Here is a pic:

Kings I have an idea for a banner. Should I pm you or just post it in banner thread?

A few points that I think that a team with the name COSMOS can bring:
    1. Players will play harder to uphold the rep.
    2. When signing a DP, the tradition and name of the team weighs greatly in the mind of players looking for glory. If you play for the COSMOS, you will automatically be associated with the greats that have donned the shirt (pele, chinaglia etc etc)
    3. INSTANT Int'l recognition. You couldn't ask for a better marketing plan. People already KNOW the name.
    4. More fans than you will know what to do with. Even DoctorK will quit the RBNJ's and come here.
I know I'm oversimplifying it a bit but there are many many upsides to the naming scheme. Downsides you ask? I'm sure that there are a few but then again why hark on them?

    What do you guys think?

i agree with most of your points, but you always have to look at it like this, we would be going back to a team that has been defunct for awhile, a team and league that couldn't cut it. Dont get me wrong they have a history of course, but I think we need something new and fresh.

I might agree with you on the league part but the team only died because Steve Ross lost in his attempt to bring the WC to the US, it went to Mexico instead. His disillusion probably caused the collapse.

OTOH, I think that the team was quite successful. Granted that its defunct but I think that it would be a great new start.

I'm of the belief that the club is made up of its fans and supporters. Its not the owner and players but rather the people, like us, that are the true club, team, etc etc. That said I truly feel that there are tons of people out there in NYC and thru out the world that remember the COSMOS. It still holds a positive image to them and it's something that they would stand behind.

I remember going to Giants Stadium with my dad to watch the Cosmos play all the big clubs from around the world. They were respected and admired. Teams all over wanted to say they beat them.

I guess what I'm trying to allude to, is that the COSMOS have an aura and a presense about them. They are known worldwide and they are respected worldwide. That reputation and level of respect puts you in a class above others. That is something you earn and its something that you develop, it doesnt happen overnight. Why wouldnt we want to follow in the footsteps of a giant like the COSMOS? Why not continue with the legacy?

I dont think it would be like the RB situation. I think they are two different things. While I would rather its not called Mets FC there are plenty of groups around the world that own teams in many different sports.

    lol thanks.
