The Rowdies just announced they will play exhibition games in Orlando: Q: Initially you said that matches would be held before the 2010 kickoff. Is this still happening? AN: Yes. Our preseason will begin in February. We are organizing exhibition matches in Tampa and Orlando. Our team will also travel for some away preseason matches. That schedule will be finalized and released over the winter. http://tbrowdies.com/news/index.html?article_id=8618
Does is it mean that? Who knows at this point. But its good for the marketing of the Rowdies for them to plan on doing some preseason for their team. I guess next month will be big for them (finally).
So, where would this exhibition be played? Better yet, do they even know where they're playing in Tampa yet?
I don't know where the Rowdies will play their exhibition's in Orlando but,I'm guessing that they are going to play temporarily at the Univ.of South Florida until they build their own stadium.
Most MLS preseason in Orlando happens at Wide World of Sports at Disney. Other options would be UCF's soccer field, Rollins or Seminole Soccerplex in Lake Mary. Has to be one of them. No way they play at the Citrus Bowl.
http://www.tbrowdies.com/mailbag/ Q: What is the latest on the stadium issue? AN: We took our time reviewing several venues in the area to make sure we make the right choice. This is obviously a critical decision that does not need to be rushed. We have had proposals worked out for a few venues, each with its own pros and cons. Our main goal is securing a venue that allows for a professional and fun fan experience and provides our team and staff with proper facilities to develop a winning club and a stable franchise. We believe we have found the best possible home for TBR and look forward to making a public announcement in November.
I know that everyone is frustrated with the lack of information but we as fans need to continue to support the Rowdies and just be patient. The USL/NASL drama is not a perfect situation and it has led to a slow build up and probably put the new team months behind schedule what marketing is concerned. I just hope that all the legal matters can be worked out and the team can release more information soon to all the fans.
In their defense, Rowdies have named a coach, started tryouts and are now in England scouting. Its not like they are like other teams (cough cough FCNY) doing nothing. They don't usually announce preseason plans until about a month or so before, so they aren't actually late in this regard.
