Second "spring surprise" in a row for Minnesota. Coach resigns last spring, star player leaves this spring. https://twitter.com/Taylor_Uhl/status/324266958180732929 Pretty shocking, she always seemed like a hometown girl and a huge Gopher across the board. She's a fantastic player and will make another program very happy.
Well she can't go to another Big Ten team or she'll have to sit out a year. Likely ACC or somewhere on the west coast.
I'm sure any of them wouldn't mind adding a 20+ B1G goal scorer! Any idea why this is happening? She was a kid lot's of folks wanted, but who REALLY wanted to be a Gopher (as far as I could tell).
From my understanding the staff didn't let her practice this spring because of fitness reasons. Suppose she didn't really like that and decided to transfer.
It doesn't sound like she enjoyed being a Gopher. She wants to go somewhere that won't work off her "tail".
Rumor running here in Illinois is that she is headed to Marquette and some fitness test and resulting team dynamics caused her to say "i'm outa here".
She is on the W League Ottawa Fury roster for the upcoming season. Looks like they have several Big 10 players rostered.
I'm not sure of the rules these days since they change so frequently, but she was granted a full release by Minnesota.
If she got a "full release" she'll be eligible to play immediately with the one-time transfer exception as long as she's good to go academically.
The NCAA allows for the one-time transfer with immediate play in the fall. If the college doesn't allow you a release (being difficult) the player can appeal (and probably will win). (Most colleges release unhappy players, for the same reason that they don't want it to be difficult if they themselves "win" an incoming transfer.) But, here is the big rule.... the conference rules must be taken into consideration and trump the NCAA "one time transfer rule". So in the case of the Big Ten, if a player were to transfer within the conference, then she'd have to sit out a year which is the Big Ten rule. (I'm sure these rules exist mostly for football and the other big money sports.) This is rarely waived. But are you sure she went with Stanford? Rumors here are still Marquette.
Any highly touted player who chooses Stanford takes that risk. At every match, there are former or current age group national team players sitting on the bench. That said, the one thing Stanford clearly needs is another talented forward. Going by the verbal recruits web site, Stanford has "lost" three top forwards switch to other schools (one to UCLA, the other two to Carolina) over the past two seasons. That certainly leaves ample opportunity for a proven goalscorer such as Taylor Uhl to earn a starting spot or become a key player in 4-player rotation for the 3-forward front line that Stanford typically runs. If this rumor is true, it would be a great plus for Stanford.
Not sure why you'd call it a rumor. Taylor Uhl @Taylor_Uhl Headed to Stanford!!! So excited to join the @StanfordWSoccer family!
