http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,1563,961128,00.html Quentin Tarantino is planning a movie trilogy that follows an American soccer player who grows up in South Central LA and plays for a Premiership. The intent is to make this franchise a soccer equivalent of Rocky. Now, I would put this thread in the Movies & Video thread if not for the last part: The last in the trilogy will coincide with the World Cup finals in 2006 in Germany I would be curious to see if SUM doesn't get involved in this, if it ever happens. I'm also curious to see which studio gets it. Since ABC/ESPN has the rights to WC 2006, it would be quite convenient if say, Miramax or some other Disney company releases it Stateside. Of course, there's a very good chance the movies could flop, and it's set in the Premiership, not MLS. Tarantino always was a Eurosnob.
Vincent: And you know what they call a... a... a soccer field in England? Jules: They don't call it a soccer field? Vincent: No man, they call the game "football" there. They wouldn't know what the ************ a soccer field is. Jules: Then what do they call it? Vincent: They call it a "pitch." Jules: A "pitch!" What do they call a penalty kick? Vincent: A penalty's a penalty, but they call it a "spot kick." Jules: "Spot kick!" Ha ha ha ha! What do they call a basketball rim? Vincent: I dunno, the English suck at basketball. RS
Sounds great. I just have to get over my fatally allergic reaction to Quentin Tarantino and his awful-as-dreck movies, and I just might go in to see this one if I were sleepwalking in open daylight wearing only underpants because of a drinking contest at a fraternity of ill repute. Biased, me? I don't know what you're talking about.
This would definately be cool and I can't wait. Us fans need these things to help bring non fans into the fold so MLS prospers and I never again have to live in the US without a top flight pro soccer league.
"Whose shoes are these?" "They're boots, baby." "Whose boots are these?" "They're Nedved's." "Who's Nedved?" "Nedved's dead, baby. Nedved's dead." Okay, that was horrible, horrible.
All right, what the heck is a continental club? I assume he means a team involved in Champions League or UEFA Cup. I hope he realizes these teams play domestically as well.
