Assuming this information is valid.... highly skeptical of this relationship being a good thing. MLS as another stepchild of the NFL.
My concern as well. I have come to the conclusion though for ratings you can see why getting a team in the south is important, but there doesn't seem to be an appetite for a team in Atlanta. Dare I say even less than NY2 and Miami. At least with those clubs they're both looking to build a SSS. With Atlanta have another case of a team that probably wouldn't be on the cards if not for a new NFL stadium.
Well, all the dice have been thrown... ....second LA team ....Miami no stadium yet ....NYFC?????????? ....Atlanta A lot of questions. A lot of work needed. A lot to wonder about. These next couple of years will be fascinating, frustrating, and hopefully be filled with a lot more postive than negative. Many have wanted MLS to take the next step....well here we go.
Despite all the Beckham song and dance, Miami has never officially been awarded a team by the league to this point.
I think the big Beckham announcement earlier was that Beckham was exercising the clause in his contract to become an owner and that he was choosing Miami as the location for his MLS team. It was not MLS officially granting Miami a team. But, to be honest, it's all a bit foggy to me.
I'm highly skeptical about Atlanta. I won't complain about this if Atlanta shows up to the games in enviable numbers. But if they're averaging below 20,000 in that stadium, then I'm going to think this was a stupid idea and a bad move by MLS. It's up to Atlantans to justify this expansion. I sure as hell hope they do.
No. You guys show up and demonstrate to all of us that you merit this team. Until then, nobody who cares about MLS should "get over it."
Aside from the big questions for these expansion teams, I'm not a fan of the fact that MLS is continuing to expand without addressing the issues of the current teams.
If Atlanta and Mr. Blank enter this league, the happiest campers of them all will be the Krafts. There is no such thing as having too many crap owners.
Come on, Knave. I thought you of all people would be eagerly awaiting Chivas USA's spiritual successor.
Another team with erzatz grass. Boo!! I thought Atlanta was getting a retractable dome. Grass should grow quite well in that environment.
Why do you assume they will take the NE role not Seattle? 70mil is a lot of money to drop on a team you don't care about. No way Kraft would buy in at current prices. Maybe it won't be a massive hit like PNW, but its a huge TV market, downtown stadium and has potential.
