Thanks. The guy is high on the Swiss, it also shown the lack of knowledge about Swiss soccer in England.
Doesn't look like Al Jazeera Sports will have the Slovenia match OR the Albania one, guess I will have to settle for a stream. Gavranovic looks quite questionable for Slovenia.
15 min in, the Swiss have absorbed the expected pressure from the home side. Now they are starting to press a little more and have a greater amount of possession.
Inler with a very week challenge and the Slovenian player hits the deck. Von Bergan with a great block, but he was a little really smacked in a very sensitive spot.
Xhaka with a great goal in the 20'. Cross came in from the right, Inler leaves it for Xhaka, bottom right corner. 0-1.
Erin with a close shot off the post, Begnalio with the big save at the other end. 32' 0-1 for the Swiss.
Great start with a 2-0 win over Slovenia. Brilliant goal by Inler. Xhaka, Inler and Behrami were the best players for me. This match was never going to be easy and I'm very happy with the three points. Now it has to be followed up with another win at home over Albania. Apparently 5000 Albanian fans are expected. And looking at the results that match in Luzern will determine the group leader. Albania beat Cyprus while Norway lost to Iceland! PS: that red card for Barnetta was a joke.
Tell me about it ;-) Good start, and now it's 'squeaky bum time' vs Albania......but perhaps away in Tirana/Skopje will be the biggest test?
very good teamwork and team spirit. with this spirit the team can make it to Brazil. Xhaka makes much less mistakes and moves much better than yet 3 weeks ago vs Kiew. Seems he's been improving quite a bit in Gladbach already
Thanks for the highlights. Inler's goal was very nice. Actually, both goals were of very high quality. As an aside, if you look at the highlights around :22 the rather large fan looks very un-Swiss. During all of my visits and living in Switzerland, I saw very few overweight people. Come on Swiss, do not have the letdown like against Romania.
The fat chap was probably an England fan who got the red/white cross* mixed up with the red/white background* and turned up at the wrong game. Most England fans are fat (as witnessed by viewing their band who 'blow the trumpet' at away games).......and stupid 'little englanders' Said band members largely come from Sheffield (Wednesday) On a Swiss front: They're 2/7 to beat Albania. Albania are 7-1. The draw is 7/2. Remarkably, the bookies are offering 33-1 on Albania to win the group. Switzerland are 11-10. I hope the bookies have got things right for a change. NB: Luxembourg were 25-1 to win in Switzerland during the ECQ's * The English flag is the naffest of all flags, and I speak as someone who has an interest in flags.
Interesting match today. It is be sold out and I expect a rather large Albanian fan section. Behrami has stated in the media, that although he is Albanian, it will not matter, he plays for Switzerland. As mentioned earlier, I hope that the Swiss-Albanians play better than the Yakin brothers did against Turkey.
The SFV expects 6000 Albanians, but it could be as many as half! I attended the last qualifier at home against Albania about ten years ago, there was at least 5000 then. The Stade de Geneve of course has almost double the capacity of Luzern. Hope we play Stocker in place of Barnetta. Don't want to see Mehmedi there, he's been out of form.
I agree that Stocker would be a good choice. Mehmedi could be used as a sub, but as a starter? I hope not.
Halftime: SUI - ALB 1:0 Shaqiri with the goal in the 23rd minute. Need to get a second one to calm the match down like in Slovenia. Albania getting too much of the ball before halftime for my liking.
FT: SUI - ALB 2:0 Beat Albania two-nil thanks to a Inler penalty in the second half. The Albanians took themselves out of the game with that challenge. Well, that sure is a great start! Leading the group with six points. The only negative aspect of the evening is Slovenia giving up a penalty in the 90th minute in Norway. We could already have 5 points on the both of them. Drmic played a few minutes and is now off limits for Croatia. I presume that's the reason Hitzfeld called him up over Zuber. I guess he now has to do the same with Hajrovic who has been linked to Bosnia.
Nice to see september start so well with the NT and the U21s' results. With all the disappointments this summer we really needed this. If the U21 play-off coincide with the next NT games I suggest we keep Zuber there and send back guys like Drmic and Mehmedi. After that, Zuber should most definitely get Mehmedi's spot in the NT roster.
http://www.m-magazine.org/en/Sport/-147The-Swiss-148-133-3134 Interesting quotes here about the Swiss-Albanians in the match.
Ah yes! I'm delighted that my 'double negative' produced a positive result. What can go wrong now? Rhetorical Q of course. Aside from the result, it was also nice to see that the Swiss didn't have a man sent off.....for a change. Early doors, but I expect all of us know there's a long way to go yet. NB: England 'got lucky' again.
