Ferati wants to return to Switzerland and there is no spot available at Basel, so why not Servette?

Kevin Mbabu has signed for Newcastle Utd.

Somewhat predictably the pundit on BBC Radio 5 was rather sarcastic, commenting "He'll just end up playing in their academy"

If KM was spanish (for example) rather than swiss they might have said something else.

    RTA/magicam?

I wonder if anyone has made the comment about him being French speaking and the influx of Francophones at Newcastle.

    I doubt it.

Last I heard, 'cockney' Alan Pardew was still trying to learn 'geordie' (English accents)

I'm sure that KM will be fluent in both 'languages' though....and French of course.

NB: The 'Swiss-German' accent is sommat else and sounds nothing like 'Haut Deutsche'.....but fair play.

I can recognise a Swiss-German accent when I hear one!

Mehmedi is certainly a talented player but is struggling at Dynamo Kyiv. I think he does not fit too well under Blokhin's philosophy. His skills are undeniable, he just can not translate them into goals. And we're talking of a team (Dynamo Kyiv) that is very poor on the offense.

Thanks for the update. He does have skills, but his Olympic miss seems to still be haunting him.

I spent an enjoyable 90mins watching Lichtsteiner thwarting Celtic.
Needless to say that in the pre-match build up SL received no mention whatsoever from the ITV pundits.

Come half-time they were foaming at the mouth with his highly effective defensive technique.

They kept saying 'typical italians' .......but did ultimately acknowledge that he was swiss.

I have got the feeling that with Mehmedi it is an issue of confidence. If he would be as self confident as Shaqiri or Xhaka, he could do much better. Then, confidence comes for a striker often with playing time, goals, a coach who beliefs in him and plays him on the right position. I hope he can play more often in order to gain confidence.

btw, how is Subotic doing at Volyn Lutsk?

I thought Leoni was looking for work again and that his Cyprus adventure did not go as planned.

Abdi is doing quite well at Watford - he is a first team regular and also scored 8 goals already this season

Another goal yesterday as the Hornets beat Birmingham City away 4-0. This takes his tally this season to 9 goals and 7 assists. Okay he's not playing in a top division but fun to compare his stats to the other NT players who've been tried, or could be tried, behind the lone striker.

    Barnetta 0 goals 1 assist
    Mehmedi 0 goals 0 assists
    Dzemaili 1 goal 1 assist
    Xhaka 1 goal 0 assists
    Kasami 0 goals 0 assists
    Shaqiri 1 goal 2 assists
    Costanzo 4 goals 3 assists
Fabian Frei 1 goal 1 assist

...Anyway, Abdi and Watford in the Premiership 2013/14 looks more and more likely and fans are calling for him to be named captain once he signs a permanent deal. Surely we never had a Swiss captain in England (at all abroad?) and except for Kasami (won't count Di Matteo and K. Frei) have we ever had a senior Swiss midfielder in the Premier League?

Hottiger, Henchoz, Vega, Ziegler, Senderos, Djourou and Degen are/were all of them defenders.

4 goals in 4 matches now with Siena. There are two reasons why it is working for him at Siena and why it did not work at Lorient. The confidence of the coach and the tactical system. He is very good on counter attacks thanks to his speed. He is not good when a team has to make the game as he is losing a lot of balls. He definitely has to improve his technical skills yet.
Hitzfeld might call him up versus Cyprus, but with his counter attack skills he should be on the bench first. He is a good option when playing on counters, tough.
Now, Derdiyok also is more often showing his talent vs bigger opponents and is hardly seen in other matches.
Who should play up front in the NT when we are meant to attack? Mehmedi or Gavranovic could be the better option vs weaker opponents, while Emeghara or Derdiyok might be the better option vs stronger opponents.

I'm counting 16 swiss players and 1 coach with game time in the Serie A this season. This has to ne an all time high for all leagues abroad.
