even crazier: nobody in the west has locked up a playoff spot. this has to be the latest that nobody has had a spot sealed in a conference There is a (very unlikely) scenario where Portland goes from tied for the SS with 2 games left to 6th place in the west. In 2 games. This 2013 season has been entertaining, thats for sure
New York is leading the league with 56pts Code: 1.Kansas City 2 2.Portland 1 3.Real Salt Lake 1 4.Seattle Eliminated (Week #34) 5.Los Angeles Eliminated (Week #34) 6.Montreal Eliminated (Week #34) 7.Colorado Eliminated (Week #34) 8.Houston Eliminated (Week #34) 9.San Jose Eliminated (Week #34) 10.Philadelphia Eliminated (Week #33) 11.Vancouver Eliminated (Week #32) 12.New England Eliminated (Week #32) 13.CHICAGO Eliminated (Week #32) 14.FC Dallas Eliminated (Week #31) 15.Columbus Eliminated (Week #30) 16.CD Chivas Eliminated (Week #27) 17.Toronto Eliminated (Week #27) 18.DC United Eliminated (Week #26)

The most nerve wracking match has to be New York v. Chicago where it could be Salt Lake, Kansas City or Portland watching and being huge Fire fans.
If past records are anything to go by, NYRB / SKC will likely finish as SS Winners / Runners-up in 2013.
On the other hand, assuming the most recent corresponding (home/road) scores between the teams do repeat themselves in the upcoming games, the following will be the outcome for the Final Week of Regular Season 2013: (in the absence of the most recent corresponding games this season, the most recent scores regardless of home/road would apply)
RSL back on top after last night's win! Now, we could end up with a three way tie if Red Bull doesn't win, if Sporting KC ties, and if Portland doesn't win. How would they determine the winner at that point?
1. Most Wins 2. Goals For 3. Goal Differential (GD) 4. Fewest Disciplinary Points 5. Road Goals 6. Road Goal Differential 7. Home Goals 8. Home Goal Differential 9. Coin Toss (2 teams) or Drawing of Lots (3 or more) It will come down to GF, (Unless the Kansas City game is a 12-12 tie), Real Salt Lake would win the SS.
Below are the Top-4 Teams still with a shot at the SS, heading into the Final Weekend. Have fun with all the maths... ## Team -------- P W D L GF - GA Pts GD 1. Real Salt Lake 34 16 8 10 57 - 41 56 (+16) 2. New York Red Bulls 33 16 8 9 53 - 39 56 (+14) 3. Sporting Kansas City 33 16 7 10 45 - 29 55 (+16) 4. Portland Timbers 33 13 15 5 49 - 33 54 (+16)
Read from somewhere that the New SS Trophy is touring in Montreal this week, hence may not be in time to present it to the eventual winning team, which can be from any of the 4 time zones: Eatern NY, Central KC, Moutain RSL or even Pacific Portland!! There could be some workarounds though: 1. Ship the OLD SS trophy to NY? 2. Use some placeholders trophies first... or, 3. Just DIY some mock paper cut-out trophies!! Anything goes,
It's going to be either Kansas City (58pts) or New York (56pts), New York needs to beat Chicago or Kansas City wins the shield.
Just want to point out that tiebreakers 7 and 8 are completely meaningless. If you are tied on goals for, goal differential, road goals, and road goal differential, then you are, by evil maths, tied on home goals and home differential as well.
Someone here presumably knows for sure, but my understanding is that the actual Supporters' Shield--i.e., the trophy itself--is always presented at the annual MLS Supporters' Summit, which historically has taken place in conjunction with the MLS Cup final. So no one will actually receive it this weekend.
Official Site: http://supportersshield.org/the-tour/ The New SS last toured N.E. last week and there's no updates no its whereabouts now. Now that the Cup Final Venue is not yet set, is the Summit still going on by then? Why not just ship it to the RBA this week?
And, despite this being the tighest SS Race ever, there will be no ties at the top of the SS Standings, unlike in 2000, 01 and 04.
You're right, but if the tiebreakers remain the same I would expect any Supporters' Shield ties in the next 100 years to be broken by Fewest Disciplinary Points if not sooner.
New York Redbulls are 2013 SS winner (59pts) Code: 1.Kansas City Eliminated (Week #35) 2.Portland Eliminated (Week #35) 3.Real Salt Lake Eliminated (Week #35) 4.Seattle Eliminated (Week #34) 5.Los Angeles Eliminated (Week #34) 6.Montreal Eliminated (Week #34) 7.Colorado Eliminated (Week #34) 8.Houston Eliminated (Week #34) 9.San Jose Eliminated (Week #34) 10.Philadelphia Eliminated (Week #33) 11.Vancouver Eliminated (Week #32) 12.New England Eliminated (Week #32) 13.CHICAGO Eliminated (Week #32) 14.FC Dallas Eliminated (Week #31) 15.Columbus Eliminated (Week #30) 16.CD Chivas Eliminated (Week #27) 17.Toronto Eliminated (Week #27) 18.DC United Eliminated (Week #26)
Right. I just think it's silly to to list tie-breakers that will never be used in the next infinity years.
