With the 24th pick, the Revs pick MD Andrei Gotsmanov from Creighton: A tall, play making type midfielder that was unfortunately injured and couldn’t be truly involved at the combine. Pace is a question. The Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-American, Gotsmanov led the Bluejays with 10 goals. The best pure attacking talent on the midfielder board at this stage, yet questions have been raised about pace and athleticism. At 6-1 he has the size to play in the modern professional midfield. Gotsmanov started his career at St John’s in 2004 where he was named to the Big East Third Team, but then gave up two season’s transferring to Creighton. 2008 All-American First Team, Soccer America MVP First Team, College Soccer News First Team, Herman SF, Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, First Team. 2007: Missouri Valley Conference Second Team. Day 1: "Good defending but not a real playmaker, good long passes. He’s playing to high as an a-mid, needs to be a holder or linker. Tall for a midfielder." Day 2: "Apparently Andrei Gotmanov is hurt cause he doesn’t play today. No report on what the injury might be. He’s sitting on the bench in a track suit." Day 3: "Andrei Gotsmanov tried to give it a go but didn’t make it to 20 minutes."
Buzz's 8th best MF. Haven't got a forward yet ... maybe that's where they're looking to sign someone?
From Ives... "Another highly-regarded player who didn't have a great combine. Actually, it wasn't that he had a bad Combine, he was hurt for most of it, but when he did play he didn't impress. Still, he's a skillfull central midfielder. "
Ives - Denaldin Hamzagic of St. Louis to New England - Saint Louis University M/F 5'10 165 St. Louis MO USA
Denaldin Hamzagic of St. Louis to New England at No. 25th. Ives Galarcep: (4:06 PM ET ) The first true "Who is that?" pick.
With the #25 pick, the Revs select M/F Denaldin Hamzagic, from Saint Louis University: A Bosnian midfielder with some promise, Hamzagic had his college career derailed with a blown ACL at the end of 2007. Returned in 2008 but only made 11 starts although he did grab 3 goals and 5 assists in that short time. Has he fully recovered? They say a ACL takes a year to get back on the field and then a year to return to top form. The injury will scare some teams, but he might be a real steal late in the draft or as a free agent. Ends his career with 15 goals and 18 assists. Has a green card. 2007: Atlantic Ten First Team, Top Drawer Soccer Third Team 2006: Atlantic Ten Honorable Mention 2005: Atlantic Ten All-Rookie Team
DC picks DF Lyle Adams (Wake Forest): Really tall and lanky outside right runner out of the back. Runs all day and gets behind people to great effect. Second best right back after Alston. Don’t let the lack of conference honors fool you, immense talent can come through the Atlantic Coast Conference while hardly being noticed. Speed kills and this left sided flank defender has plenty of it. As a four year starter at Wake he plays in as advanced a pro style 4-4-2 as you’ll find in college. Adams was a key part of the 51 shutouts his defense earned in his time there. He’s got good feet and loves to take opposition with pace, eleven goals and six assists show the quality getting forward. Adams is the best wide defender in the senior class.
2 picks coming off injury? I'm assuming SN had already scouted these guys and sees something special from when they were healthier and thinks he may have made steals on guys who's stocks are down. Strange. It feels like there are some better rated guys left.
Wake Forest D Lyle Adams to DC. DC's having a good draft. And apparently Revs fans are stunned queit.
Okay now if we somehow take a shot at Yohannce Marshall I won't be so upset. Some forwards would be a nice surprise instead though! Seabrook or Peters would be nice.
I really thought we were going to take Adams. So we have selected 1 - Def, 2 - Mid and 1 Mid/For hmmm...
