Lots of love for our Frankie on ESPN. Can't stand their shambles of a site, but their articles on him are pretty good. Can't link, on phone.
he's mentioned he would love to manage chelsea. it's funny though, he also mentioned he doesn't really want to work his way through the managerial system and work with lesser clubs first. he only loves chelsea. unfortunately, it would too easily end in tears. but imagine if he had fergie longevity at the club. never happens, especially under current ownership (not that i'm complaining too much), but he'd have to start his managerial career on fire.
Any chance he could be an assistant here for a few years then step in as manager? I'd love to have him here in that role. Plus the respect and trust the current players have for him it would only help the new gaffer.
I think he'd probably make a better assistant/first team coach than a boss, anyway. Could certainly see him in the Wilkins been-there-done-that-got-the-skills-arm-round-the-shoulder type of role.
great piece by Rodger Bennett, 1/2 of the MiB podcast http://soccernet.espn.go.com/blog/_/name/relegationzone/id/682?cc=5901
All goals. http://www.chelseafc.com/news-article/article/3041329/title/frank-lampard-194-chelsea-goals
Lots of memories in there. Shame that the compilation of all his goals (up to 181 or something) was removed from YouTube
I can't remember how the club has handled negotiations in the past, because quite frankly it's never been an issue, but could they be waiting until the end of the season? He technically wouldn't be an FA until June 1 correct? I suppose the thing that hurts this line of thinking is the lack of dialogue between the two parties?
There's obviously something stopping it otherwise we could just put this issue to rest. One party has a problem with whatever contract is being offered.
As far as I'm aware, the problem isn't on Frank's end, because he has allegedly said he wants to stay and would even accept a wage cut. Coming from a club legend with so much fan adoration, that would seem like something club management would jump on. Instead it just seems like the PTB want to cut him for the sake of making room for freshening up the squad with more youth. Not a bad sentiment, but hardly a persuasive reason in its own right to get rid of someone like Supah.
Just trying to be devils advocate here. He may be willing to take a pay cut but only on a multi-year deal.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/jan/04/john-terry-frank-lampard-chelsea So his contract doesn't expire until the summer, but the worry is that he's already able to sign a pre-contract with a foreign club. That rules out United (who he's been linked to), but obviously not LA, Juve, Fiorentina, Toronto Fc, etc.
Toronto!? As a Columbusite, I could not handle it if Frank moved to (T)hat (F)ucking (C)lub. Speaking of the MLS, this sort of reminds me of what happened here with the Columbus Crew a few years back when club management told Frankie Hejduk (our captain for many a year) and Guillermo Barros Schelotto (our best player for several years running) to f*** themselves and refused to offer them new contracts. Not because they were washed up or performing poorly, but because they were on the wrong side of 30 and the club wanted to make room for youth. The fans hated it, our performances dropped, and many (including myself) still haven't forgiven the club for the disrespect the club leveled toward some of its most adored players. It would really be a shame for Chelsea to go down that route with not only Frank but also Ashley.
sorry to ruin the fun here but just a reminder that this thread is to discuss the awesomeness which is Frank James Lampard Jr. perhaps the contract talk can continue in the News thread because if it isnt about Frank being the shit then it should not be in here
