It's been refreshingly sensible in here. What gives? Dominating possession and the shots department is good. Not executing in either of the final thirds is not. But we are Liverpool and it's better that we play like we want to control the game than vice versa. You would hope that mistakes when defending and lack of scoring will be the exception rather than the rule with stats like we had. If areas of play are going to suffer in the short term when adapting to this new style and with new players, it makes sense that it would be in the attacking and defensive thirds. Hopefully sensibility will see us through the short term because if the team consistently controls the game like they did yesterday, results will eventually come.
Yeh, that was Kenny's and then Roy the season before and Rafa's last season before that. It's coming, I can feel it in my bones....or perhaps it's just arthritis?!
^^ to be fair I don't recall Woy ever saying that - his mantra was defend defend defend, punt it long and hope for the best. If we can nick 3 pts ok - but 1pt is always utopia.
watched the gif of Suarez's "dive" - he actually was clearly hit on the trail leg first before he fell - so it wasn't a dive, let alone a yellow. But unfortunately he is the pantomime villain and will forever be so in England.
I'm fine w/ Suarez receiving a yellow, because if an opposing player did the same thing - I sure as hell would be calling for the ref to hand one out.
The dives of Suarez and Wellbeck were both shameful and should be met with equal disdain. The reality is that if Suarez had duped Atkinson into pointing to the spot, it may well have wrested away three points when we would have otherwise collected one (the big assumption being we would have converted the penalty). Wellbeck's dive - even at 0-0 - only served to bulge the eventual margin vs. Wigan.
Let me get this straight -- we are defending a Manc who clearly dove for a PK when the teams were playing equally and attacking our player who was fouled but we think he should have either not fallen down or got up and apologized to the Sunderland player for letting himself be fouled ??
Yea, I don't get it either. I think some of us need to start watching the games with the sound on mute. It sounds like we're getting swayed by the campaign to paint Luis as the only villain in the league.
To me it seems that they're getting more balls in the box with better scoring opportunities than last year. I may be remembering incorrectly but watching them last year there seemed to be a wall aroung 20 yards away from the goal that they couldn't penetrate no matter how much possession they had.
