Okay, I'm the guy you're talking about. Sorry if I sounded pedantic. I'm a teacher, and it's just a habit. I did join in the song, however, and was singing at the top of my lungs. It's a good chant. When you started leading, though, you had the tune wrong, so I assumed you didn't know the original song.
