My initial opinion about Atlanta Phoenix was that it's too weird and potentially comical if Phoenix gets an expansion team one day. But I think you really nailed it here. Looking at this logo, colors, and how (after some getting used to) those two words somehow just fit and roll off the tongue nicely, I think it could be really solid. It could be a very strong brand. Not too Euro, nor is it cheesy mascot style, yet it's a clear defined brand and imagery, not something general like crew, union, impact, galaxy, etc. It's bold because people are going to be divided on it at first because of the Phoenix AZ connection. But I think this could really work.
If we are to completely rip off Pontiac, we could just use this. It has already been done for soccer!
I would love to find at least one thing we agree on... Man U or Chelsea? 442 or 451? Dogs or cats? Pepsi or Coke?
let's see - I hate Man U AND Chelski! It's Everton for me when watching the Premiership. I've been a professional coach for decades now and all my teams play 4-4-2, except when they don't. Then it's 4-5-1 based on the team we're playing, etc. I like dogs better than cats, but prefer mako sharks to both of them. Quit drinking pepsi and coke this year so it's a no brainer there.
Well, at least we both hate Chelsea *I know a lot can be lost over the Internet, but know my arguments although are passionate are meant lightheartedly
Can I play too? Man U or Chelsea? Chelsea. It would be neither, but I like the 'club de barrio' (team of the neighborhood) scent that Chelsea still has in London. So, Chelsea. 442 or 451? 4-5-1, but I need to explain. It always depends on who are the players (both yours and the opponent's). However, I love Bielsa's 3-3-1-3. Since he changes for 4-2-1-3, whenever the opponent attacks with 3 forwards, 4-5-1 is the closest option to it. Dogs or cats? Cats. By far, but my wife is allergic and my kids love dogs. I lost. Pepsi or Coke? Pepsi. But I drink water most of the time (beer and Wine aside, of course).
Man U or Chelsea? Arsenal 442 or 451? Last kids I coached had the swarm mentality - 7 clustered around the ball at all times! Granted, they were 9 year olds. Dogs or cats? We had a fish, a parakeet and an outdoor cat. The ex wanted to put them all in a room and winner got to stay. It's one kick-ass parakeet. Pepsi or Coke? Coke. and Bacardi. If by neighborhood you mean one of the wealthiest and haughty districts around the planet, then yeah.
I drink water mostly too, but say I go to the movies, I want a popcorn and coke. Pepsi is gross to me. I'm not a fan of a 451 but it does depend on personnel. The 2 forward formation creates more pressure on the center backs which opens up play. I don't see how anyone likes Chelsea... Me and my cousin argue about this all the time. man u, to me, seems to fit the American spirit the best... And at least they have attempted to mine for American talent. Maybe when an American plays for Chelsea and they
Arsenal...not a big surprise. Hate United and Chelsea I coach a 331...I used to coach 442 and as a former outside mid I like having two strikers/ targets, but with Arsenal I watch so much 451 it is growing on me Dogs...cats piss me off and I am allergic Coke, if Pepsi is offered I am drinking Dew for example Taco Bell.
In England, if I have to pick a team, it would be Charlton. I watched a game at The Valley and loved the experience there (taking the train, walking in the neighborhood, the stadium in between houses). Great stuff.
Outsider here. I always liked the old Atlanta Flames moniker. It circumvents the word "Olympic", and supports the use of the phoenix emblems already discussed. I assume there are a number of good reasons why Blank wouldn't want to draw any associations to a failed NHL team, but it's just my two cents. Of the names mentioned so far, Vanguard stood out to me. Gotta say I'm digging the use of the phoenix in various designs.
Personally, I dislike naming a team after a disaster that destroyed the city. Especially not when it's an unnatural disaster. A name that hearkens back to overcoming it (aka Phoenix, Firebirds, Resurgens, Rising, etc.)? Sure, that's great. But not the disaster itself. Which is why I thought the Atlanta Flames was a stupid name. And I don't much care for Chicago Fire either.
Torch could be cool because it is Olympic and uses the colors. Plus you can have the Atlanta Olympic torch with a Pheonix coming out of the flame as the crest.
