Yeah should be a fun diversion to help us forget what may very well be the wrapping up of a crappy first "season" come June.

ACTUAL STRIKERS NEWS: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...-florida-0606-20130606,0,6137196.story?page=2 Buried in a Beckham hype-piece is Strikers stadium progress: Near the Cricket Stadium is something new. We've heard suggestions of actually playing in the Cricket Stadium, but a new venue, which would probably be on the corner of 441/Sunrise Blvd is an interesting option.
Also the Cosmos have apparently signed Jemal Johnson for the Fall: http://nycosmos.com/news/cosmos-add-two-more-players-squad
Yeah read this one earlier. I had a feeling the team would start putting out some kind of news, even if it really doesn't say anything we didn't already know. They need to fast track this and get ahead of any possible move Beckham and Claure may decide to make. But I'll say it once again - Sawgrass is by far the best possible location. Glad to hear it mentioned specifically in the column, and I hope that's a telling sign. It has everything going for it you could want for a site. 441 & Sunrise leaves a LOT to be desired in my opinion......
See I don't get this. I was completely unimpressed with Johnson, and I say, let him and Dimitrov pack up and hit the road together. Johnson has a ton of speed. But he never seemed able to use it to take advantage of other players or create much of anything. He was a terrible winger. He turned the ball over constantly, and had a very hard time creating enough space from defenders to get off good crosses. To me he was just an inferior version of Foley. But Shore has always loved having multiple small, speedy MF's on his roster for some reason. Even though he never seems quite able to use them to win games.....
This is a head scratcher for several reasons. First, Johnson signed a contract for just the spring season? I don't know whose idea that was, the Strikers or his, but just dumb. Second, the mighty Cosmos signing a player that the Rowdies passed on? Priceless.
Do must Striker fans agree with Brown, did the Cosmos loanee really stink? http://www.startribune.com/sports/blogs/210619051.html
Yeah he was pretty bad. Lit it up in the preseason when he had abundant chances vs. college teams, but when the games counted he was useless. Scored his PK in the shootout vs. Laredo in the Open Cup, so that was something, but he missed one during the game vs. Edmonton.
I think it is safe to say that the ONLY positive thing he did in his time here was make that PK against Laredo. I sure hope the Strikers weren't paying anything for him to be here....
Rumors flying around about Restrepo and Herron to Atlanta. Possibly for Pedro Mendes and Joe Nasco(GK). http://www.mlsreserves.com/2013/06/nasl-rumor-mill-trades-afoot.html Restrepo said on twitter (in Spanish) that "whoever wrote that article is an irresponsible liar". So who knows what's up.
Is there anywhere else in the country that is a more interesting area for this sport, both good and bad? Do any other fans, except Chivas USA fans, have more wonderful things to keep them "amused"? .....
Interesting that Johnson hasn't developed any more than he has over the years, but such a lack of development is a big reason why he has bounced around in his career. I was very impressed with him as a youngster coming up from the Blackburn academy, but we see what has happened with him since then.
Cosmos just signed a La Liga player from Villarreal. You guys are gonna have to up your game a bit to avoid a blowout on August 3rd (which I hope you do, cause it would be nice for it to be a competitive match).
While I don't necessarily agree that a single player signing will make the Cosmos that much better than the Strikers in game 1....Part of me is a bit envious. One of the things that the NASL touts is their "flexibility" compared to MLS (no salary caps, individual and not collective ownership). I would love to see our Strikers be more aggressive and make a bid for a couple of "name" players....Unfortunately, this seems completely opposite of the "Traffic" model for running the team. Also, I love that the Cosmos got a tv deal (even it was on some obscure channel)....with Gol TV headquartered here, why couldn't the Strikers try and pull off the same? Even if it were for a handful of games....maybe with Ray Hudson doing color?
Ray Hudson calling Strikers games! Love it. Perfect homecoming for him. Add him to the Tailgate Show crew as well!
I dunno. I'm gonna guess that Ray Hudson drunk would be even more entertaining than usual, if that's possible.
