http://www.sigmafotbal.cz/cs/?umenu=7-6-1-&id=4152&back=10-1-1- The club is just taking a look, with the possibility of Stefan coming back when winter training begins in January. He has been training with the "B" team which plays in the 3rd division. Basically they are trying to identify possible new players.
Jerome would be well-served to go somewhere that's not Miami FC. If that means the Czech League, the Czech League it is, although YA adventures in central and eastern Europe rarely seem to end well.
heard that, while Andrew Hainult isnt a YA he didn't have nice things to say about the Czech league from what I remember, he wanted to come to a league that "fair" and assumingly not corrupt as hell.
Well, Most (where Hainault spent most of his time) isn't the best club in the Czech Republic, and they are a week away from going belly up. The Czech league is a good place to get noticed, if you are good. Many players move on to Germany, Austria etc...
Except Tomsk. (though that is in mid-tale) And, in fairness, Eastern European got the very bottom end of the YA's. As their low salaries suggest they should. Of course, in the olden days, Peter Vermes played for Győr, Paul Caliguiri for Hansa Rostock (in 1991, it was a definite "expansion" club), Jimmy Conrad for Lech Posnan. Those stories ended well.
Since I presume that Sigma Olomouc is outside the Traffic Sports umbrella, I'm guessing that this will be one of several trials for Jerome. Not much point to heading overseas just to trial with one somewhat out-of-the-way club. (Is he still with Traffic?)
That's probably a significant factor. And the most desperate YAs often ended up at the most desperate clubs in those leagues, so it's a two-way street. Sigma Olomouc isn't a titan, but as far as I know they are solid club within the Czech Republic. I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't just the beginning of series of trials for Stefan.
Sigma is probably one of the best non-Prague clubs over the past 15 years. They had a period where they struggled a few years back, but as of late, they have been playing quite well. I've been supporting them for 10 seasons, and this year they are playing fantastic football. Probably not good enough to win the title, but certainly good enough to challenge for a Europa League spot. With that being said, it will be tough for Stefan to break into the first team as a regular starter at the moment. He would probably be looking at a spot with the "B". As one Sigma fan said, he must show that he is better than the players from the academy. Sigma also now has an agreement with a player agency in the USA, so there is always a chance more American players could end up on trial with Olomouc. Another American could arrive in January. http://olomoucky.denik.cz/fotbal_region/se-sigmou-trenuje-reprezentant-usa20101115.html
Is that unnamed "US player agency" Traffic? Also, the coach/GM says that they will look at some US colleges but a Czech club will probably not be able to compete against MLS in compensation for the top rated players.
Do they have foreign player restrictions in the Czech Republic? If there is an agreement in Traffic.........the unnamed "other American" in the post above could easily be somebody like Arguez. He needs to get his career on track.
I think so. Sparta has 6 non-Czech (but, as a fellow EU member, the Slovaks shouldn't count as foreign), which would make it 3 non-EU. Slavia has 5 non-EU. Sigma just has 2 Brazilians.
Dude Sigma Olomouc throws the sweetest keggers!!! They are no Alpha Delta Phi but they are right up there. Hopefully Jerome knows how to make a toga
Another article from today. http://fotbal.idnes.cz/zacatek-nove...a-1uz-/fotbal.asp?c=A101116_095205_fotbal_ald It basically says that Stefan has to leave for international duty. The coach said they couldn't see much of him, but Stefan will not be the last 'trial' player from America. He goes on to say that perhaps Stefan will return in January. He also says a little about University players and how he is interested in their training process. The article also says it is the first black player to be on trial with Sigma in 7 years. Apparently, the coach has a friend with a player agency who helps players go from American to the UK. I remember in 2002 the two Nigerian brothers playing for Sigma. They were around 16, and 18. At one game I was sitting near the ultras, and when one of the brothers came on to the pitch some fans started monkey chants. From there they turned their backs and a few minutes later left the stadium.
It must be some sort of misunderstanding in the article. Stefan Jerome hasn't been called up to a youth national team in quite some time.
Googling it out ('cos my Czech ain't too good) This seems to imply that he left for a reason, not that the trial itself was over. But that reason can't be a US U-20 set-up, can it? Would Rongen call the guy up during his pro trial? Now, Clavijo might ... if he had another trial arranged somewhere else.
Based on that translation I would guess that he left either for personal reasons (and I hope this doesn't mean someone in his family is hurt or very ill) or that Traffic yanked him out to go do something else.
So, Rongen did call Jerome up and Clavijo had Boss scheduled at Sigma as the "next American trialist" and Traffic is indeed that connection to the US? I am not sure who feel worse for, Sigma Olomouc or the kids.
That article is a mess. Let me clear it up I dont think Rongen called up Jerome Traffic is the connection Gale was going to go to Sigma but went to South Africa instead. Was not expecting the call from Bradley. My guess is that a USMNT cap plus the u20 tournament will get him more trials and Sigma will still be interested in December
Well, good work on the mess. Olomouc obviously said they're still interested. The Gambrinus League is ranked 19th by UEFA but their team play and teach decent soccer. I guess it's better than the USL.
There was another article in the national sports newspaper which featured an interview with the Sigma Olomouc manager. The article again mentioned that Stefan had to leave for a US representation 'meeting' (camp). Doesn't really matter that he had to leave, as the timing for the trial was a little off. Sigma Olomouc first team plays their last game on Sunday, and then they have 6 weeks off before winter training begins.
The American(s) taking part in winter training will most likely be attack minded players. http://www.efotbal.cz/index.php?page=clanek&clanek=81821
