I've seen enough posts to know that there are quite a few engineers here and in the interest of full disclosure, I'm not one of them. I'm starting this thread mostly to keep that shit out of the other threads. It sounds dreadfully boring.

I have noticed that most of my Mexican- Engineer friends in real life seem to be Civils/Electrical. What about you guys. Im curious to see if thats the case on here Role Call: Discipline/Industry 1. El Mariachi: Mechanical/Aerospace
*slides in like he just stole third* Baysic - Mechancial Engineer Focuses: Thermo Fluids/Mechanical Design Currently working for a company that manufactures and designs chassis for servers and other heavy electrical set ups....its my temporary job to gain experience so i can move on to something better Inevitably my dream job is going is working on automobile design or some aerospace applications. Shit or even global sales so i can make that big $$$ Might go back and get a Aerospace so i can throw an extra degree on the wall
you have a BSME or MSME? I have been debating going back and getting a MSAE. I was reading HR policies and we get a substantial raise if we do get a higher degree that applies to our work.
Well done, gentlemen! Keep that shit in this thread. Lol. I'm going to go back to my Random Thoughts and take it nice and easy...
One things about being back in school pursuing a 2nd degree, you are not concerned as to what really goes on out in the real world because you already are and know what path you want to take. You can pretty much differentiate what is applied and what is useless, err, i mean theory. You know what project management software programs are really being used (Primavera), industry standards and building codes, etc. In one of the green building courses, they were talking about these programs (similar to LEED) but it took green building to the extreme. I remember the students in awe about the design guidelines of these homes..... what the prof doesn't tell the other students is that these design guidelines are unattainable. In most cases, either a building code or a health code will not allow it.
One of my coaches took this route. His field of study was textile engineering and got into the sales aspect of it.... makes great money and travels the world
BSME. Basically my game plan goes like this. I wanted to work for like a semester and i been asking questions galore at work as to what i need to get a higher position and all that stuff so when i returned for my masters i wouldn't be wasting time and getting what i need done. obviously since theres not a high degree of theory behind static designs like a chasis, they would actually just be delighted to raise my salary and position soon as i have FE exam passed and eventually the PE. i have also been snooping around job postings for other companies in different areas of the industry, and its similar....alot of companies will hire you aboard if you have just a bachelors and your FE, but in order to get the inevitable big position, you do need your Masters it seems. Also you have to keep in mind the decline rate of the shitty economy and how much science is advancing.....i have a hunch that its gonna get to the point where one day just your bachelors wont speak much for you, and having a masters will be crucial. Like i said...i actually went through college with the idea that i was gonna Finish all my ME classes and during the easier semesters i actually took alot of AE course to the point where im actually 3/4 of the way on that degree. It would just take me year to get my second degree, but im debating whether its worth it or should just get my MSME.
Word, there's this guy at work that is doing that shit as a global sales manager. So one day when everyone went out to drink i finally asked him "hey man how much do you make?". This guy is basically o the brink of 200K. This guy basically goes to work and just wanders around and checks up on how were doing with his projects. Then hes gone for like weeks, on trips to china, mexico ,canada. The only bad side to it was that he's recently divorced, and was telling me how the fact that he travels so much had alot to do with it. so i guess you gotta decide what weighs more on your life...settling down or making the moneys >_>.
