I missed last week's game, so maybe this wasn't new this week, but it was new to me. My family usually arrives at the games about an hour before game time, and we sail into the stadium. Today, the lines were long, and I found out why: newer security measures. As far as I know, there hasn't been an incident to merit these measures. I had to hand over my (earthquakes) sweatshirt and take off my hat. Have people been sneaking in contraband under their hats? I was thoroughly wanded front and back vs the perfunctory wave I'd gotten in the past. My husband had to remove all his outer layers. What's next? Full body scans? Patdowns? I put up with this at the airport because it's part of the price of getting somewhere I want to go. Otherwise, I would never go near an airport. But by choosing to go to a soccer game, I am assumed to be a criminal or at best a troublemaker. Guilty unless proven innocent. Any explanation for any of this? The timing seems particularly bad, with season ticket invoices coming out in the next few days.
