Link? (Not that I doubt you or this info, but I would like to learn more about that change to RFK's field as a result of the Nats coming to town.)
It's been so long ago I wouldn't begin to know where to look. But my memory is that the original drainage system under the infield area was removed/altered and the replacement "system" wasn't adequate. I believe this was being discussed after the infamous Houston match that I went to three times. asitis
I don't remember it either, but it's been plainly obvious that the field doesn't drain like it used to. It used to drain like a champ, one of the best if not the best in the league. Now, yeah, no.
I too remember some of the drainage system being removed and am too lazy to look it up although I'm sure there are references in these stadium speculation threads.
Couple years back game was stopped in the middle due to the field flooding during heavy rain. It was mentioned in the broadcast that half the field had no drainage, part of which was where the pitcher mound used to be.
because i have nothing better to do: http://www.crewdc.org/march_summary05.html and https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/rfk-improvements.332262/
I remember once upon a time I never hesitated to research any point in this thread. That was back when I was getting e-mail and RSS alerts for news items that might have anything to do with a stadium. I was young and naive back then. I cared about the numbering of these threads.
The field drainage system may be gone, but at least RFK has the two almost new baseball dugouts as a consolation prize... seriously, the one behind the goal looks RIDICULOUS on television.
I think it's wonderfully ironic that the Revs are looking at a closed dog track as a possible stadium site.
I hope they keep the fake squirrel that circles the track - it'll give their fans something to watch during the games.
