Re: Odds on relocation? nah, and besides I'm talking about last week's derailment, not the big crash in the summer. If that isn't fair game, you are way too sensitive. I could almost see (but not agree with) the other situation maybe being too soon to joke about
Re: Odds on relocation? I haven't read this whole thread, but does anyone else think United's FO is waiting to see if Fenty gets re-elected? Do you think there's a chance another mayor will have the ability to get a stadium bill pushed through?
Re: Odds on relocation? You should read all of this thread and every single post in the Stadium threads all of them. No chance in hell we have a stadium in DC unless somebody on this boards wins the damn lottery
Re: Odds on relocation? I'd say the odds of this successfully coming to fruition are about 1 in 400 billion. Lloyd Christmas: So you're telling me there's a chance... *YEAH!*
Re: Stadium News and Speculation XXIV: ZZZZZZZZZZZ To be very precise, the outcome approaches 1.0 for large values of 0.
Re: Odds on relocation? I don't know. This is heavily dependent on the economy. If the real estate sector were to recover in the next couple of years, it's well within the realm of possibility to see new investors wanting to develop somewhere. And I personally don't think the issue of Poplar Point is going to ever be forgotten. Something is going there at some point, regardless of the city administration present at the time. The only issue is when, and again, the depends on the economy. Then DC United could latch on to any random development. It's better than nothing.
Re: Odds on relocation? If I win a big enough lottery, I'm both getting a stadium AND moving out of this hell hole. I'm fine with the snow-bound part, actually.
Re: Stadium News and Speculation XXIV: ZZZZZZZZZZZ If I were to win the lottery, I'd become an investor in the team, build a stadium, name it after myself, then demand to become player-coach. What? Everyone says we need a new CAM
Re: Stadium News and Speculation XXIV: ZZZZZZZZZZZ Build it life-sized and you could drape your new jerseys on it. This plan is coming together. Of course it sounds like a lot of my business plans. Step 1: Win the lottery. Step 2: Come up with killer idea Step 3: Er... Step 4: Profit
Re: Stadium News and Speculation XXIV: ZZZZZZZZZZZ Now if only we could get "None of the Above" on the DC Mayoral Ballot, we'd have a pretty damned good chance of beating Fenty.
Re: Odds on relocation? Yeah, MagpieFan, do me a favor: don't reference me in any of your posts! In fact, don't even respond to this to acknowledge the request!
Re: Odds on relocation? Sadly, even if someone wins the lottery, it would still be difficult to get a stadium built. Some have marked Houston's progress, but there still isn't really any, just hints of progress. And they're putting in 80% of the cost of the stadium and there's open space that the city of Houston owns. Winning the lottery would give you the money, but there's still the political barriers, because you'd expect the city to spend the money on supporting infrastructure. It sure doesn't seem likely that that would happen. Maybe you could buy land somewhere on the outskirts, and the authority out there would spring for the infrastructure improvements. Yeah, this thread is depressing. And I'm not helping. But I'm not managing to latch onto the derailment. Been a quiet fan of United from the days when I lent my support to the name selection process. It's really pathetically sad that the DC government doesn't understand the legacy that United has. Here's hoping that the US wins the World Cup and it wakes up the DC pols. That seems much more likely than anyone that cares about DC winning the lottery.
