Non football related....Anybody watching the Federer-Murray final? Hell of a match. Amazing tennis being played today.
Federer may have the upper hand though. He is really in command in the third set.

It's amazing to me how much tennis has changed in my lifetime. This is a different sport to what I started watching in the early '90s.

Bah, Vertonghen to Spurs. I hate when players I like move to teams I hate.

The last match I watched was Roddick losing the final like 3 or 4 years ago. It's a shame how far injuries and just laziness has set him back.

    im the same way

but its a lot better than the 145 mph serve game it was becoming in the late 90s. Glad they stopped that.

Today's match worth watching. Murray is playing as well as he may have ever played but Federer is majestic

I wasn't really complaining, just remarking how much the sport has evolved in my lifetime. And I agree about the huge serves, I prefer tennis when it's a combination of power & finesse. Today's match has been outstanding.

apologies, I didnt take it as you were complaining.

I agree with you completely about the game changing. Its a lot more athletic now, and a lot more power tennis. My point was more of a complaint about where the game was going in the mid to late 90s where players could not break each other as dudes would boom 130-140 mph serves and those guys had nothing else to their game but that. Those players were terrible for tennis, and I am glad the powers that be curtailed that style of play.

Absolutely outstanding. Riveting match. I feel for Andy Murray, it will be hard for him to get back there. Federer is pure class.
    Touching speech from Murray.

The result is karma's way of punishing the British tennis public for coming up with the lamest nickname in sport's history: "Tiger Tim". Andy never stood a chance.

    Federer is the best ever.

Now that he is no longer with Arsenal, I often wonder what kind of tennis player Thierry Henry would have made. And I see Roger Federer. Would have been some great contests between those two.

the game was much better to watch then, i am so bored of these people juststanding at the baseline smashing it back and forth, in the 90's u still had serve volley players whose style contrasted, sampras being the best of that type.....now it's all the focking same, the french open may be the most boring sporting competition in the world

i think the game is as fun to watch now, but thats just me.

my real beef is that there were guys who could only serve the ball hard and win matches 7-6, 7-6, 6-7, 7-6

Im talking about Kraijceck, Phillipousis, Rusedski, and others of that ilk. Limited players, couldnt come to the net, no volley, no return game types. Just hit that serve as hard as they could.

Tennis has gone away from those types for the most part.

I understand your beef, but I do enjoy the game as it is now (I find pure serve-volley play ridiculously boring, actually). But I'll agree that the French Open is the worst of the 4 majors, although I respect the hell out of those guys for playing so well on clay. I've tried it a few times and I always had trouble staying on my feet :(. I'm really interested to see how well they can whip Wimbledon back into shape for the Olympics in a few weeks.

French Open is a very boring tournament, and have the worst crowd too.

I will never forgive them for booing Serena because Henin cheated and Serena called her out on it. Horrible crowd.

I think the Aussies have the best crowd for a major.

Adebayor to Spurs confirmed for £8 mill.

only kraijceck actually won a slam out of those though right? they were all good players but had a different style, serve volleying is an art

the surfaces are too slow now and all these baseline ralleys for 30 shots are not exciting to me

yeah, only Kraijceck but those guys I mentioned were top 10 players.

I dig serve and volleying, which is why I am partial to Sampras so much, but those guys I named (and there were more like end of his prime Goran Ivanisavic and others) were not those type of players. They were only interested in serving the ball hard as hell and couldnt move a lick on the court. That was some terrible tennis.

It's a sensible fee. If you look from Sperz perspective, it's the equivalent of paying 18 million. The 100k a week that Citeh were contributing to his wages would equate to 10.4 million over the two remaining years of his contract, so even at 170 a week, he won't break the bank completely.

    Sign Bale -- Check
    Decide on Adebayor -- Check
Stop relying on Ledley King -- Check

Spurs are having a good summer. Esp given the length of time it took them to find a replacement manager...

    selling Modric-- Check

they need to buy more strikers too. They may also sell VDV (altho not too big of a deal, imo). Need more centerbacks as well.

oddly this summer, I actually feel good about Arsenal being in that top 4. Much more than some other summers.
