Somehow Boonen and Terpstra snuck away from the peloton and are now engaged in a two-man tt for the velodrome. How the hell does the peloton let that happen. And now Boonen is off on his own.
I'm actually a little pissed/disappointed. 9 am, after race into, they go to the race and the guy has broken away - and is going very fast (for historical race standards). You look forward to seeing a race, and it seems like it is practically over. Is it bad to wish for a flat tire?
Think they were just surprised that he took off from so far out. == What kind of tires is Boonen using?
Best cobbled classics season from a rider I have seen. And haha, his wiki page already shows a victory 1st E3 Harelbeke 1st Gent–Wevelgem 1st Tour of Flanders 2nd Omloop Het Nieuwsblad 1st Paris-Roubaix Will equal Roger De Vlaeminck in P-R victories.
De Vlaeminck is still monsieur Paris-Roubaix. At least until Boonen wins a fifth. Tommeke might now equal his victory total, but Roger never finished worse than 7th in that race. It's also funny that those two guys are probably amongst my least favorite Flemish riders.
You were saying? Switching between this and 10 man QPR vs Man Utd at Old Trafford, because I'm a glutton for anti-climax.

It's not really Boonen's fault that his only real rival for this race went out injured last week. You can only beat what's in front of you. It's more an indictment of the drop-off in quality for this event once you get past Spartacus and Tommeke.
At least when they came on the air, it was 11 v 11 and a 0-0 score. That was the equivalent of joining a 4-0 game in the 60th minute.
I really don't know what to say. I am not a Boonen fan at all, and I figured he might be lucky to win E3 or G-W. But to win both of those, RVV and P-R and also take second in the Omloop? Shit. That's ridiculous. PS - nice to see Phinney finishing in the top 15. I would much rather see him become a classics stud than another great white American GT hope.
Yep..I am tipping my hat to Boonen. A couple years of distractions and injuries and he comes back to have a dream season. Phinney is built for this race (and time trialing)..and yes, I'd rather have some more classics riders than stage riders. Of course, his American team mate is the next GT hopeful.
