So now we have: RB: Myers, Ellis, Jerome, Juliao LB: Sinovic, Ellis*, Dovale^ * Right sided player who can play on the left in a pinch ^ Forward who has been known to play at back
Looks like it ... you could also throw Myers on the LB depth chart with the * next to it. I love this depth chart, quality starters followed by talented youngsters with upside. No aging guys with limited upside filling up roster spots as "depth". I'll be suprised if Orlando doesn't get one of the RB's (Jerome goes back there as the most likely option IMO).
I would really prefer we have a real left sided defender in backup, but considering how difficult those are to come by and how I should be happy with the one we got.. that's probably OK.
I completely agree ... and who knows, maybe Toni eventually becomes that ... but we're pretty fortunate.
Can't argue with you there! Although it sounded like he was a left footed player that likes to play on the right and cut in with his dominate foot. Why can't Zizzo be left footed? ... or Saad!
Well... We like to switch our wingers like that too... So I an going to guess that we will see him on the left about half the time. I could be wrong though
When Vermes said the other day that he was working on a deal with a midfielder, could he have meant left-footed Real Madrid youth academy product and UCLA grad Victor Munoz? DCU drafted him in the 2nd round of this year's SuperDraft, but he is no longer listed on their roster and tweeted this two weeks ago:
Apparently we don't need any wingback depth after CCL. Do we have yet another signing on the horizon?
surprised we just waived him and didn't send him on loan to okc if we weren't going to be using him. his awful game in mexico aside, i still thought he was better in some respects than chance (and worse in others). i'm guessing this also means that chance is healthy again finally?
You'd have to think that we have someone else lined up... there would be little reason to waive someone now otherwise, right? Interested to see if we have some left back lined up, I thought that the Gardner move was to open space for Juliao... either that or Dovale was really signed as a back and not a forward.
The only immediate thought I have is that Ellis has shown very well lately (Cruz Azul aside) and he's young and local enough that we can expect him to be around for awhile. So, Ellis as depth on the right, Toni (?) as depth on the left, and... that's all we need? I kind of have to think that there is another signing in the pipeline.
Loaning him still kept him on the roster though and with the other 3 potential signings we needed another spot open.
In the article about Gardner being waived it was mentioned that the team was closing in on 2 defenders (one of which we assume is Juliao) and 1 midfielder (not Dovale)
Yeah, going back and reading the Gardner article, the very first line of the piece is: "The Sporting Kansas City back line made another modification [Gardner] Tuesday. And one more may be coming soon." Emphasis added.
That would be something! These moves are good. If SKC's staff feels that these are not players that can help them take it to the next level, time to bring in some other (likely younger) options and hope to push the starters and have better depth. Gardner and Meshak are solid MLS depth ... SKC wants more ... that's a good thing! Orlando isn't very deep or experienced at RB ... I could see Meshak going back there.
