Doesn't deserve it's own thread I think, but figured this could be a catch all. We're being linked with a Brazilian right back who we played against in preseason with Fluminense http://globoesporte.globo.com/futeb...tado-para-o-sporting-kansas-city-dos-eua.html
Of all possible positions, why right back? I think Sporting is more stacked there than anywhere else on the entire squad. Unless Vermes is planning on fully converting Jerome to CB? Otherwise, this rumor makes little to no sense to me.
Hate to see someone lose a job, but it's good news IMO. He probably belongs with M Thomas in Oklahoma City.
Sounds like Gardner was let go to open an on budget (top 20 roster spot) roster spot. I think Joseph was an off budget guy due to age/low wage ... so we have one of those open too. check out the Blue Testemant Blog ... Vermes saying "hopefully this week!" for the new signing.
I feel for Josh. I imagine it'll be hard for him to find another Club at his age. Having to start over with a wife and kid is tough.
I feel like many of us have probably been in similar shoes (or worse) to Josh Gardner right now. Wishing him the best.... Could this also be a signal that Chance is back and ready for full duty?
Roster room for who? Either I've been missing something, or SKC has been playing some sweet pretty close to the vest. The only place I could expect a serious signing would be on the right wing, pushing Zusi back to midfield and Nags off to the bench. Anything else than that, and all I can figure is SKC is releasing a depth guy for a better depth guy.
Speculation, but see my first post in the thread, combined with this: Sam McDowell @SamMcDowell11 Peter Vermes says Josh Gardner was waived in order to make room for an interntional defender the team hopes to add this week. #SportingKC
Fascinating! Dropping the term "international" like that usually is referring to someone who actually plays for their national squad, no? If that's the case, must be a CONCACAFer. Because Sporting went through all that trouble (and likely extra money) to retain Myers, so I suspect primary RB is taken. Because Besler, Collin, and Opara appear to be fighting over the starting two spots right now, and all three are making very strong cases, so I suspect not CB either. That just leaves the left side, and my guess is it would have to be someone significantly better than Seth for Vermes to oust him. Neat. Typing these things out made me realize that likely every single person reading this already thought of this and I'm just stating the obvious. My guess is this will be a somewhat underwhelming, probably no-name signing that fulfills good depth and utility. Upgrade from Gardner I guess, whoo.
No, would just mean he's from a different country. As in, he'll take up an international player slot.
Ah, so like I surmised in a later post, he'd more likely be a CONCACAFer. At least, that's your guess. Who knows. I seem to be the only one digging it tonight, but I'm enjoying transfer suspense.
I'm with Buzz, I expect this week's signing to be the kid from Fluminense. But Vermes said that he is also working on deals with another defender and a midfielder.
Well Igor Julião's wiki already says he plays for SKC so there's that edit: And I see Buzz beat me by 6 minutes on twitter lol
Yes, today's article about Gardner being waived: http://www.kansascity.com/2014/03/25/4914840/sporting-kc-waives-defender-josh.html
