Well, technically Fall goes to December 21 and whatnot, so it theoretically could mean that they'll move everything even further down-the-line such that the MLS Cup actually gets played at the end of December. That could continue to open up the schedule to try and respect FIFA dates more. I have no idea one way or another if this is what he was talking about, I haven't and can't listen to it right now, just thinking out loud.
That was along the lines of my thinking process: Fall is from September 21st to December 21st, how can you "move to a fall schedule" when the season already utilizes 80% of that time period?
Sigh. The summer-intensive schedule works well for my life. More games in October/November/December could lead me to give up my season ticket. I hope it doesn't come to that.
Yeah, that's what he meant. He used the term "fall", likely because of that reaction right there but the length of the season as it currently stands would imply games being played in the dead of winter. Maybe they are also considering shortening somehow the season? Sounds like MLS wants to have its schedule line up with the other world leagues. Next year will be the same, but PV said the year after that there very well could be some changes.
I don't see it happening in two years, Garber has said in the past that basically every team needed their own stadium before they'd really look into it, and New England isn't moving out of Gillette in 2 years.
Same here. So far, really the only horrible weather game we've had was the Colorado playoff game. If they move to a winter schedule, we aren't going to stay that lucky.
Poorer attendance due to more frequent bad weather, competing with football and basketball instead of baseball... I hate the idea of a winter schedule in MLS. And wasn't Bundesliga tossing around an idea to move to a summer schedule? I got the sense that leagues are starting to question who demanded that a soccer season has to be played through the winter. With all this crap about Qatar 2022 going on, it wouldn't shock me to see some big leagues go to a summer schedule in the next nine years.
Some will do about anything for a free video game from howler magazine. Ha, Anyone here look familiar?
For a moment, I thought the girl in the second picture had no pants on. I thought that was a pretty bold and sassy way to participate.
I saw her at the AO party thurs night and was tempted to ask her about it. Small world. Bold and sassy for sure.
So this is more for an offseason thread, but I'm not ready to start that yet... www.soccernews.com/mls-star-hints-at-move-to-europe/131751/ Here's the original French article. http://www.francefootball.fr/news/Collin-je-me-suis-fait-un-nom/415646
Opara is an adequate (and younger) replacement if Collin leaves - with Olum as depth. Collin "will" leave us some day, whether via retirement, moving on to 'greener' pastures, injury (heaven forbid), or being muscled out of a starting role (and what kind of impact would that have in the locker room?) If it's not the first, the second would be preferable from this fan's perspective. And if it is, no way in hell we let him go to another MLS club. Collin has CCL knockout to play for next year as extra incentive to stay - plus a stable CB partner/club situation (he gets paychecks on time and plays in top class facilities - including working showers, both of which wasn't always the case in Europe), and a club team that will need him to start during WC July.
Really!! SKC only has one player that made it into the top 50 accurate passers in the league? This may be a indicator of why the offensive production is so anemic. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...eaking-down-50-most-accurate-passers-mls-2013
Yep. So, 50 players across 19 teams you'd expect 2-3 players from each team if it's evenly distributed (2.63). I'd be curious to see how it breaks down.
Here you go: RSL 5 POR 5 LAG 5 MTL 4 DCU 4 VAN 4 PHI 4 COL 3 NYR 3 HOU 3 SEA 2 SKC 2 NER 2 FCD 1 TFC 1 SJE 1 CLB 1
Palmer-Brown is up for young male athlete of the year from US Soccer http://www.ussoccer.com/about/history/awards/2013-young-male-athlete-of-the-year-finalists.aspx
Couple articles from today. Forbes says we're the 7th ranked team in terms of value and revenue. http://www.forbes.com/sites/chrissmith/2013/11/20/major-league-soccers-most-valuable-teams/ And a good article on Sporting's Argyle styled 3rd jersey and everything around it. Some pretty big sales numbers for the 3rd jersey too. http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/...20/Marketing-and-Sponsorship/Sporting-KC.aspx
Also, that is the valuation without facilities, according to the article. I find that even more impressive.
Someone on Twitter said it was a 491% increase from where the team was at in 2006, which puts the value at that time around $17M. So a $25M sale-price sounds about right.
Sinovic was on 610 earlier this morning. Pretty standard stuff. BUT, they just couldn't resist using the last 2 minutes of the interview to talk about the chefs. UGH.
