Yeah, then we sold 50% of his right to a fund for a little more than €3M and now we sold the rest to Corinthians for €4M. We almost broke even if you disregard his salaries.
Good players generally cost 8 million. So either he's a good player and we paid market, or he's a horrible player and we overpaid when Benfica took a pass on him and Atletico already knew what they had. I'm going toward the later. He wasn't a #10, he wasn't a set piece specialist, he wasn't exceptionally technical, he wasn't particularly fast and his dribbling was sub-par. All in all I'd say he's probably one of the worst Brazilian CM's I've ever seen. His box-to-box engine wasn't even that great. He didn't really play Defence and his Offensive contributions and touch were lacklustre. During a period where Sporting literally had nothing in the midfield after the exodus of Moutinho, Veloso and pre-Martins, Adrien, Dier, Carvalho era, he was super sub-par. Elias is the last thorn from the horrible era I will refer to as the "Maniche-era", which basically describes the type of players we had then. Old, awful or even more awful.
I believe the 35 mill is in pounds so its not too far from the buy out clause if these figures are accurate.
I would argue buy back his pass, but I bet QFIL would want FMV and not what they paid us for the % and a reasonable mark up. Ah well.
I don't have a link, but I heard Sporting exercised the option on Piris and he'll be staying with us.
Not terribly concerned about that. Worst case scenario William Carvalho is sold, we don't have a suitable replacement and he plays out the last year of his contract with us before he leaves free next summer. Best case scenario, some other club in Italy liked what they saw and offer up. I don't recall spending all that much on him, I believe 900k, sold off most of his rights afterwards, so even if Catania purchased him, we'd have very little to gain.
Apparently we're looking at the Swiss u21 captain Loris Benito. He's a left back who plays for FC Zürich, and it's been reported that he has already attracted Juventus, Tottenham and Sunderland's interest too. Here's a video of him catching a marten.
And now we're down to what i believe could be our best move this "summer": Anderson, from Leixões. Record and Correio da Manhã state that we're closing a 200k deal, with Leixões keeping 10% of a future transfer and gaining preference for one of our loanees from the B squad. A great deal in my book as we get the perfect player to replace William and pay next to nothing compared to the kid's potential.
Well Catania won't buy Rinaudo, but they'll sure as heck loan him for another year. So we'll get wage relief there and based on what I read, his contract expires in 2015 (Wikipedia says 2016 but i don't see a source for that). So consider the Rinaudo chapter over. Salut Ex-Capitao.
Hi guys, Does Sporting list the wages that each player is making? For example, which players are making close to 1m euros a season? Thanks.
Didn't Labyad make 1.3 mil a year? I doubt theres too many players close to that. Maybe Patricio or Capel...
