Wow - I heard the announcement he was leaving KALL700 for bigger and better opportunities. I thought for sure it would be something out of market, program director, or something else.

Instead he's joining the ignorant soccer bashing crew over at 1320 KFAN. Wonder how that got worked out? Maybe some love does exist between the Checketts and Millers after all?

Hopefully he brings some sanity and at least a bit of respect for the sport to that station - but somehow I doubt it. Other than DJ they pretty much rip on the sport, the club and the fans whenever they get the opportunity.

I heard this as well, and my thoughts were the same. It can be a good thing if he takes the respect with him to that station. We know 1280 The Zone will always be a bunch of idiots, but hopefully the respect level at 1320 will improve.

1320 the zoob? why the hell would spence want to do that? i couldnt imagine having to be around those dick bags every day, just awful awful radio. SLC sports radio is a giant pile of dogshit and the 1320 is on top of that pile.

Spence's first love is basketball and this move will allow him to be more involved with that sport. Otherwise, its well known in the local market that the Miller's pay their radio personalities the highest salaries. All in all its a a very good opportunity for Spence. I don't think he'll allow the other guys to get away with bashing RSL and the sport. He has a very strong personality.

I heard a few years ago Spence applied for a job, but Larry basically said, over my dead body. I guess there you go.

I could not agree more. As much as I respect David Locke for his knowledge of sports but its the absolute arrogant contempt that oozes from that know it all douche bag when his is trying to hide his real feelings. Say about BYU or soccer. Not to mention that FAT bag of gas Ben Bagley who has the worst fake laugh of any "DJ" I have ever heard. Man I hate that effing station.

Other than DJ 1320 is nothing but a bunch of arrogant blow hards and if you think for a second that Spence will stand up for soccer or RSL I will believe it when I see it or hear it.

Good luck to Spence for sure.

I wonder what this means if anything for RSL? I have a lingering thought in the back of my mind that all may not be peaches and cream with Dave taking the new job, selling the Blues and now Spence leaving not to mention the low cost youth movement at RSL. What does it mean? Think positive, think positive.

I haven't heard about this regarding Dave. What job did he take? When did he sell the Blues?

Spence, like any good sports commentator, is a very polarizing figure.
I'll actually be happy to have him leave the post game show on 700. His nonsense made it so that real discussion a lot of the time was lacking and he just got into a pissy fit about something very miniscule (say officiating)

As has EVERY post game host in RSL's history.

What bothers me about Spence is he seems to think he controls the RSL fandom (similiar to mods on BS...).

Several post games, when there was something legitimate to complain about a player or coaching decision, he would announce that he wouldn't be taking any phone calls from idiots that disagreed with the Club's decision. What? I thought the idea was to talk about the game not spin RSL propaganda. Its better for the team and the fans to talk about it openingly.

Hopefully whoever replaces Spencer doesn't feel as entitled. I am sure their ancestry will help.

I must spread rep, Prime. That ancestry portion will be very key.

I actually liked when "The Gov" has done the post game show. He has a much better knowledge of the game and seems more "approachable" in a radio talk show kind of way.

My first thought when I heard this news was 'why would you want to join Locke, he is just plain awful as a sports talk host, analyst, whatever you want to call him.' Pretty much whatever he says, the opposite is true. Anyway, I too hope Guv takes the pre/post games, he brings good insight to the games, and he doesn't take things personally.

I don't care for Spence at all. If he is really going to be on 1320 radio, I won't listen to that show. He is like nails on a chalk board for me.

Spence is making this move for exactly two reasons:
    1) Basketball
    2) Money

This move gets a great big "meh" from me. It's not like we're losing something important here. He knew nothing about soccer and made no effort to change that. He sat there before and during games surfing the internet looking for NBA games. A lot of people in the RSL organization didn't like him for the lack of effort. Contrast that with Bill Reilly who comes from a "big 3" background like Spence did - when Bill was getting started on the RSL gig, he went out of his way to watch soccer, ask questions of those who had knowledge, etc. I would say that Bill is now one of the more knowlegeable soccer minds in the local media pool. He's a true professional in every sense of the word.

The first thing I though when I read the title of this thread was "I hope the Gov gets more air time". Not sure how the hierarchy works for moving up the broadcasting ladder but he's a nice guy in real life, and I'd like to see him get more air time.

Look at the bright side, now Spence can talk about things he knows more about.

    It's a win-win.
