It was made official today that Spain and Portugal will go for a joint bid for WC 2018. Although most of us know Spain could host a WC on it's own easily I am happy that Spain opted to co-host with us. Just wondering how you guys are feeling about what could be the greatest run WC if we win the bidding war.

I think this bid and England will be main contenders

it will be 12 years since the last european based world cup (2006 Germany) so I think there will be alot of pressure to put the bid in europe.

also its been said that latin american fifa delegates will be lending their support to the Iberian WC bid.

Obviously the bid would get a lot of support from Central/South America and parts of Africa

World Cup matches being played in Camp Nou again...nice :D

It's been a longer time since England has hosted a World Cup than Spain, so it would make sense that England would get another nod before Spain

Knocking down Spain (second time) and Portugal (first time) with one stone isn't a bad idea though. Plus, it would make history as the first co-hosted World Cup.

    Well f*ck me

There are people out there who don't consider 2002 a legit World Cup, so I could save face by resorting to that...but then I would be saying that Brazil only have 4 legit WC's :p

I think everyone is well aware that Korea had "a higher power" assisting them until the Semi's.

......and it was obvious that power was in no way divine.

No one said Spain couldn't host this by themselves. They have all the stadiums and then some while we have 3 suitable for matches but not even 1 (anymore) capable of hosting the final. Although some renovations can see us bump 4 or 5 stadiums into acceptable attendance size. I think by adding Portugal the bid is much friendlier in the eyes of the FIFA committee. England would be the sure front runner if Spain went at it alone IMO.
