Welcome to the party....Wilmington is a nature fit. You're close and we've played each other for years. Our clubs have a good relationship with each other, we've swapped players and Coach Irving visits us a lot. I've visited your place several times for matches....the best one was when you played DC United in a close USOC match years ago in front of 5,000 fans...fantastic (even though you lost a heart breaker 1-0). Carpooling with Bags and a couple of his lady friends to see a match....our driver was speeding and got pulled over....I was handing open beers back to Bags to hide as fast as I could...LOL....met Lexus for the first time when he came to us on loan after your season ended....drinking $1 beers in the beer garden & getting hammered at Blackbaud before he was eligible to play for us. Those are some good memories...even for an old fart like me.

Oh yeah...we're going to crush you this year...so ef-ewe-sea-kay off!! :D

So if I have this right, as of June 8 the standings are...

    Code:
                              pts gf ga
    Wilmington 3 3 0
    Charleston 3 2 3
    Charlotte 0 1 2

    Charleston 2 - 1 Charlotte 4-29
    Charleston 0 - 3 Wilmington 5-21
    Wilmington @ Charlotte 6-11
    Wilmington @ Charleston 7-14
    Charlotte @ Wilmington 7-23
    Charlotte @ Charleston 8-12

thats right and Hammerheads match on Saturday will be Wilmington's chance to extend the lead or Charlotte's chance to get right back in it.

Just curious, why wasn't Richmond included in the Cup? Or Orlando?

I think it was an attempt to promote travel to away games, and those two cities were considered a little too far away. This is not to say it couldn't change in the future.

mbsc is correct. In fact we tried to include Richmond last year and we reached out to the fans but no one stepped up to do the leg work up there.

Also once you add those two teams, you are looking pretty much at the entire American Division.

That blows... For them, more than anything else.

Is that a problem? Or is it a case of spreading the rivalries too thin? Again, I'm not trying to be a geography stickler or anything, just curious.

I don't know why more fans won't do this. I love the idea.

I'm not opposed to it. But with it being tied to regular season match we've only in the last couple years gotten the clubs to promote the matches (within their press releases or linking to something one of the fans have written.) we've started seeing more main stream press interest this year and we are hoping (fingers cross) the final match on FSC (Charlotte in Charleston) this season will have implication for the winner of the cup and we can get some air time their too.

Looks correct I added Games Played in the stats as well. Each team has played two of the their four matches.

Hopefully, the winner of the cup would also be the winner of the match* thereby allowing FSC to show a brief trophy presentation, or they could show pictures of the trophy on a stand with ribbons in the team colors, a la the FA Cup.

(* Obviously, I'd prefer the Hammerheads win it, but if not, then the scenario above would be nice for promotional purposes.)

I doubt it. Two victories on the road plus the strain of back-to-back games this weekend-- We play at Charlotte Friday night and they come to Carolina Beach Road the following day-- and the Hammers always play better at home.

The only way I see Wilmington possibly lifting the hardware is

Hammerheads victory over the Eagles (4-0)

    and..

Charlotte victory over the Battery (1 -0)

I don't think I'll spend the day clearing a place on the mantle...

By my calculations, we still have a shot if the Eagles win by 2 goals or less. Should the PCF send one of our more "telegenic" members to collect the hardware? :D
