Old one was here, hadn't even realized how far over we'd gone.

I've been trying to think up a song to the tune of "Manic Monday" simply because the second line is "I was kissing Valentino by a crystal blue Italian stream". The chorus sounds like it could be a good mocking chant, but I just haven't thought of anything yet.

Maybe if he ever reached his potential: "It's just another goal by Igwe".

The Famous Seamus recently introduced me to the Cock Sparrer classic that is "England Belongs to Me," and I can easily see it transitioning to a chant in The Fort, especially the Chorus; you can really get a sense of what it can sound like en masses at the end of the following video.

Just imagine The Fort doing that...

That being said, Nathan's nailed the reworking of it as "New England Belongs to Me" with his lyrics below, and I can't wait to see Studs Up get this beauty dialed-in and recorded :). You can currently find an early version of it on YouTube if you search for it:

"Years of being told you ain't as good as us
Join the line, sign your name
And they all said that our team's going bust
But no-one's fooling us again

New England belong's to me
A region's pride the dirty water on the rivers
No one can take away our memory
Oh-oh, New England belongs to me

We'll show the world that the boys are back to stay
And you all know what we can do
Heads held high, fighting all the way
For the red, white, and blue

[Chorus]

[Chorus Repeat...]"

We have to make this work in The Fort this year.

I brought this up in the last songs thread, and "Studs Up" (a band comprised of a few Riders for those that don't know) covered it on their YouTube page.

It's a great song, a great idea and I think we should definitely test it out a few times.

Likewise. I really think this could become a Fort staple.

Here's a much clearer version than the video posted above.

One thing I'd like to note that I love this chant for, is that we're not simply re-working someone else's chant as with the majority of our (and most other clubs worldwide) tend to do. I know that we always get knocked on that from other countries in our YouTube videos, and it will be good to finally have that (and Jonathan Richman's New England) as "original"* songs.

*I say original because while we are taking someone else's material, it's not something that's been used time and time again by the footballing world.

I see a lot of great idea that never happen
what do people thing of creating a (stickied, restricted post) of alll the current song (like an online song book). as we come up with some new ones, we could create a few polls to pick out the best songs and then add them to the song book thread.

The problem is meatbags sing songs, not 1's and 0's.

The songbook resource is a great idea as long as it were locked and limited to mod posts. It would regress to the usual pissing matches if it were a regular thread.

As for "New England Belongs To Me", I'll sing it. However, it has an uphill climb due to it being a subculture song.

I'm not entirely sure who it was (I think it was Magpie), but someone mentioned awhile back that they had a bunch of audio samples of Fort chants.

Whoever it was, ever think about making slideshows with the chants as the audio and posting them to youtube? It'd be a good, free way to get the chants out. Maybe post the lyrics as the first comment or in the video itself.

Just throwing spitballs here.

Well for original why not get people to learn the song Daniel posted before MLS cup? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yz0Pp0RcId8&feature=related
(I've no idea how you embed those things) It's original, well written, easy words, simple tune make a nice anthem if everyone sang it.

While I appreciate the work he put into it, I wouldn't sing that. It actually requires a singing voice too, imagine a bunch of tone-deaf people singing that....no, I'd rather not imagine that:p

Im all in for the cock sparrer cover that would be sick.
Unrelated, anyone else know German? Some chants in German would sound neat and be unique for MLS.

I'd be all down for German, but it would never happen and getting several hundred people to learn it....have fun with that one.

Yup, I am St Pauli supporter. Used to live in Hamburg, for a little bit when I was really little.... this ones a really easy and fun one.

Oh-oh oh oh oh oh-oh,
Oh-oh oh oh oh oh-oh,
la-la la la la la-la,
Magisches Revolution siege heute hier für uns, hey!

repeat... and its always more fun to be bouncing and moving around while doing it.

another one, this one is a little harder.

Blau und weiß sind unsere Fußballfarben,
königsblau und weiß wie der Schnee,
blau und weiß wird‘ ich für immer tragen,
weil ich echt auf New England steh.

You mean something from that extremely popular progressive who took the country by storm in the 30's?

I hope not.

Yeah, those wouldn't be too hard. The pronunciation isn't bad for any of those words, though my German is Bavarian/Austrian (spent 2 months in the very south of Bavaria and a semester in Vienna) so I'm sure we'd disagree on how to pronounce several of the words ;)
If enough people were willing to learn, I'd be willing to help teach. And people can always just make words up if they're lazy :p

^^^

Hell yeah

I suggested that chant in the last chant thread. Its a catchy one, I cant remember the song that it relates to though.
And to Rachel83 thats neat, sounds like an awesome semester abroad! My German isn't perfect either. I'm only 16 and I only lived there till I was about 5. I hardly speak any German in the states. I only do when I'm back visiting family I guess I'm pretty damn close to fluent tho.

We going to start this again?

Do I have to remind everyone how that group prescribes to a very radical political orthodoxy (and have a reputation to be violent about it)? They are one of the worst groups to completely mimic.

The individual songs in their routine are 50's and 60's pop tunes and are fair game. However, doing their routine is a homage to them and shows solidarity with what they stand for. Some of their antics I consider crypto-fascist in it's purest form.

Seriously, how freakin short are people's memories? We had this argument four months ago.

Homage? I'm there for a soccer game, not to pay homage to a group of fans in Germany.

It sounds good, it's going to get people to participate, that's all that matters.

By the way, keep the politics off this part of the board.

Sorry?

It could be fun to do the songs. Who was talking about doing a "routine"?
