Well, I guess we may see Guerrero + Son combo... Petric's calf injury which I thought was just the sort that "appear" during cup times, turns out may rule him out this weekend. And Berg was terrible so to keep 4-4-2...

Fink seemed to be giving lots of instructions to Son before extra time. I wonder what it was.

Looks like petric's injury could be a few weeks. I hope for the clubs sake that Berg never sees the pitch.

EDIT: I guess Berg practiced with the first team :(

The major concern for me is how fink saw that match and could think that berg had anything to offer

"Marcus scored a goal and Son scored last week against Freiburg. I will just have to see who trains the best. It is a very tight decision.''

    Berg trained better?

He also mentioned going with his gut. Perhaps he sees berg as more petric like vs son being more like Guerrero.

Anyways. Officially on the bench and officially disappointing.

Wonder why he is on the bench all of a sudden. Not like Berg has impressed.

The fact that Son is on the bench is not my issue. Its berg after one of the most horrific 120 minutes I've ever seen.

My only hope is that it may be that son is gassed. He was asked to do a lot more movement and backtracking than berg or Guerrero

Defender got red card so it's only natural to put defender in, not forward.

Ah. I see about the red

I guess finks hand was forced but another missed opportunity for points against a beatable team.

Fink's biggest weakness... he LOVES strikers who can't score.

Rewatching some of the match as I get some work done, I have to say I'm amazed how much more organized the team is though I cannot tell how much if it is due to the calibre (or lack thereof) of their opponent. Then again, under Oenning they looked terrible no matter where in the table their opponent sat.

But berg still sucks. He just butchered some easy passes such as drilling a ball 3 feet wide to an open Jansen behind.

I hope Son get's on Fink's radar soon though next weeks opponent is a lot more difficult.

This weekend Fink said that with the exception of Son, no player in the squad would be capable of playing quick counter football - that's why he prefers to aim for ball possession.

I suspect this will mean less overall playtime for Son and probably also a positional shift back to the wings. I hope for a lineup like this in Leverkusen:
Drobny - Diekmeier, Bruma, Westermann, Jansen - Töre, Rincon, Kacar, Son - Guerrero, Berg

Is tore ok enough to play? Didn't look serious but you never know.

Hard to argue about the lack of speed on the squad. And Guerrero is creative enough it he didn't have a dud like berg next to him

I'd be surprised if we saw son out wide given some flexibility with lam there.

Appears Son may get the start (on ESPN3). Berg is recovering from the flu so despite being Fink's current favored Petric replacement, Berg may be brought on as a sub.

Lets hope Son makes the best of things.
