In you invite the sockers to play the lancers yes it will sell tickets but I think the sockers can beat the lancers with ease .
I have know Soccer Sam for a long time and I can tell you hes crazy in a good way if anyone could sell this event it would be him , He was the first guy to figure out a way to get National Press for his team by offering Allen Iverson a Contract to play 1 Game For the lancers . Bring back the Sockers Sam
Dude- if you invite the Sockers to play the LANCERS it will sell what? I'm quite sure there are not thousands lined up at Blue Cross Arena to see this historic rivalry renewed Let's be honest, it would be a waste of Sam's $ to fly them in and play
I dont think it would I dont think he could sell it out . I know for a fact that if was the blast vs the sockers it would sell out .
I know for a fact that is the dumbest thing you've ever said here (no offense). Baltimore has had, what, two sellouts since 1992? The second-coming of the Sockers played in the second-coming of the MISL and none of those games came close to selling out. A game not on the regular season schedule against the Sockers (probably on a Friday or a Sunday) would draw about 3,500 unless the Blast marketed it to their groups for a couple months in which case it would get 5,800 announced. On the other hand if an annual championship was established between the MISL and PASL they would probably get 6,000-9,000 for such a game.
Syd your incorrect everyone still talks about the sockers in Baltimore I know for a fact they could sell it out , Also in the 80s the blast use to sell out a lot , If it ever happiens we will see who is right on this one . we need to get them to play just to see whos right
But, but, but, the Blast HOSTED the Sockers THIS century and did not sell out any of those games. It's like saying I know for a fact that Jose Canseco could hit 40 home runs this year if the Orioles sign him. Yes, he used to be able to do that, but he hasn't done it since 1998 and his power was already dwindling before he retired.
I wasnt gonna comment on this thread, until I watched the video somebody posted of the game highlights. Ive played in the 'better' indoor league. That was not good soccer. It looked like slow motion soccer. On some of the goals, the 'red' team didnt even run back on defense. It was uncomfortable to watch, like a team playing against an overmatched opponent, that knows they are overmatched. Ive seen better soccer at some amatuer regional and national indoor tourneys. ps--I just beat my daughter 42 times in a row at checkers....see how dumb that sounds? Sad.
When we played the Sockers in the Playoffs or in the Championship that game always had a great crowd & when was the last time the Sockers were in Baltimore . I think your under estimating the Fans in Baltimore . I dont thing the Misl & Pasl Could ever come to terms to even make this happien & i dont think the Sockers would even play the Blast . I think the entire thing would be a money issue I dont even ent to know what it would cost to fily the sockers to baltimore and put them in a hotel for a 2 days and then fly them home this alone has to cost some serious coin Not to mention the $15,000 per Game the blast are paying in rent for the Arena .
I think you are overstating the draw of indoor soccer. The average attendee of a MISL game, is almost indifferent to the opponent. This makes MISL games not at all different from all pro sports. The bulk of the fans are there to 1)see the home team, 2)be part of a group attending or 3) have a night out. The San Diego Sockers will not create that draw if they win 100 consecutive games. I am interested in your source for the rental cost of the arena because that dollar amount seems high.
The 15,000 per event was published a long time ago , I know we had a Group interested in putting on a sports card show and wanted use of the arena and a 1 year advance booking for it for a 4 day show the arena wanted $75,000 for rent and use of the entire arena , and 24hr security , and lounges , and they also wanted us to have a 1 million dollar bond . I could not in a million years see paying that type of money to the arena we would need to sell over 1,500 Tables and 500 Corprate boths inorder to make any real money off of the show , the autograph signers cost $10,000 & up per player I do now for a fact that the Last sports card show at the convention center cost them $50,000 to book and a additional $200,00 just to get players in to sign autographs . I will research it to get u a link to article i seen it in
San Diego came to Baltimore in 2003 or 2004. Didn't sell out. Probably wasn't half full. Even in the original MISL the Blast didn't sell out every game against San Diego in the Championship. I think they even had some crowds in the 7,000s. If the Blast even thought they could sell out the arena not only would they invite San Diego to come to Baltimore, but they could pay them $50,000 to come. It would be well worth it for a sellout.
$75,000 divided by 4 = $18,750 not $15,000 The last sports card show according to you cost $50,000 So I am just curious as to how you come up with numbers??
the last show i was talking about was at the convention center this year . the blast woud get a discounted rate no us bring in a 1 time event .
here is where you may want to check http://www.mdstad.com/images/pdf/bcc-expansion-final-report-february-2012.pdf it is a interesting read and list some place in here lease holders on the arena
Interesting to a point, but no where in the report is there data concerning lease agreements or rates for the 1st Mariner Arena. Again, I don't know, but $15k/date seems high.
Not really if you think about how many people are employed by the arena to handle blast games its at least 200 per night if not more
adding a championship series betwen the PASL and MISl would be interesting. it would be kinda like the Super Bowl before the AFL and NFL merged. course on a much lower level of national interest. there might be a few PASL teams that could fit in the MISL imo.
I have heard and maybe somebody knows better but I have heard that Sears Center was like 10 or 11,000 per game so it could be possible that the mariner does charge a high end $15,000 but what a rip if they do since they have been a steady customer. And that was a few years ago and I am sure that number could be negotiated down maybe???
Fitting in I could see and I like the idea of the PASL / MISL Championship Game or series What makes the PASL work so well is they have cut all the cost out of travel and over sized arenas and they have a more realistic budget .
I can tell you that The blast has offices in the arena all year long . The arena I think they have up to 400 People who work their at concerts when they are sold out . Lets say they have at least 50 ushers / ticket takers making $12 per hr and get 5 hrs for every game they work , that's $3,000 just for ushers . They have at least 20 security officers that make about $15 a hr each , then you have a 12 Man Maintenance crew That i know for a fact make between $15.00 to $30.00 a hr Depending on his job Title this is the same crew that sets up and tears down the events You also have the concession crew at all the stands that have at least 3 people working at each one I think they have 10 so there is another 30 people I guess $8.00 a hr . They have at least 10 floating beer and soda stands . I know my numbers are not 100% correct below $3,000 Ushers 50 people x $65 shift pay per person $1,500 Security 20 People x $75.00 shift pay Per person $1,728 12 Man Maintenance crew 8hr day adv $18.00 a hour . ( this is a scale job ) BTW $1,200 Concession crew $500 floating beer stands 1,600 For trash removal ( 4 Construction Dumpsters ) Total $9,528.00 I did not include , a Cleaning Crew ,Electric, Gas , Insurance , MISC Items or cost so $15,000.00 a game is not that bad if you really think about it .
