China's was the most epic one I've ever seen to this day. It was something I've never seen before. Russia's was very predictable and nicely dodging the revolution in that whole history run lol.
Technologically speaking, this one was tops. But that is understandable as technology advances daily. next one will be even more advanced. I thought I heard Nautilus Pompilius' lyrics midway through the Parade of Nations.
Lol at being better than China! Pretty much did the same concept London did explaining their history just Russia's maybe was cooler. I liked the part about Piter and the 50's era a lot. Cool they talked about dubbing Beatles on x-ray films my dad listened to them that way!
Lipnitskaya is ridiculous. Opening ceremony was awesome, except the Revolution part and the lame video montage of the famous Russian actors. Also, I didn't like non-athletes to carry the flag, even though Tereshkova is obviously a big person.
yasik, which part was that? Only reason sheva isn't completely bashing it is because of the reception Ukraine got.
I think that's nitpicking. Look who carried the flag in Vancouver: "Former hockey star Bobby Orr; musician Anne Murray; Formula One champion Jacques Villeneuve; Betty Fox, the mother of cancer research champion Terry Fox; actor Donald Sutherland; gold medal figure skater Barbara Ann Scott; UNAMIR commander Roméo Dallaire; and Julie Payette, Canadian astronaut, carried the flag into the stadium." Half of the London 2012 flag bearers were also non-athletes. Like Ban Ki-Moon, the secretary-general of the UN, for example. In fact, it was uncanny how the official part of the ceremony was similar to Vancouver 2010's: an astronaut, an actor, a musician, and a hockey player were involved in carrying the flag. An opera singer sang the Olympic hymn, a hockey player lit the flame.
There's been an incredible amount of Russia-bashing prior to the Olympics in the American media. Especially on Yahoo.com and unfortunately even in the WSJ. Americans are still systematically conditioned to hate Russians.
And vice versa. Plus it's the media......if the news is bad, it's a field day. It's really stupid. As Kasparov said, the media should pay attention to how most of Russia lives in general, rather than the conditions of Sochi hotel rooms.
Yes the media trashing was horrible. I haven't been following the news but nobody whos here is having a bad time.
Seems to me that Quick is the difference here. Growing up with Federov, Bure and the gang - never thought I would view the US as favorites. Hopefully, Datsyuk is healthy and the defense can hold it together. I'm kind of conflicted here. I was really pulling for Team USA in Vancouver. I love Pavelski. But I know once the game starts I will be windswept by sentiments of nationalism and identity. Guess I'm not fully assimilated.
