i'm probably going to rethink the draped banner on the SoB logo, since that (and the fact they are both skull & crossbones) makes it look like a ripoff of barra brava's logo. granted, everything's been done and nothing is really a new idea, but i don't want it to seem like blatant plagiarism.

wow, the texian army's been around a helluva lot longer than MLS.

First off, kudos to mdelrossi1 and Dillon for working out their differences. I am only saying this, because in my long years as a BS mod, I don't think I have ever seen such a peaceful transition from outright rage to righteous co-existence. If we had a BS citizen award, I would give it to both of you. Thank you! ;)

As for the logo, I agree that Ben hair might be good. I also think OKterrific and dangit77 might be on to something with lightning bolts, kites and keys. Bolts are always cool in logos. Its just begging to be done.

Master Logo creator Dillon, what say you?

i say, i wouldn't want to put everything into the logo, as i think some of the best ones around are simple. i wouldn't want it to get too cluttered and busy, you know?

i would definitely like to look at the hair, because as i said before, it'll go well with the bifocals by giving him the franklin/colonial look.

the kite, as a literal element, might be one of those things that make the logo too busy. buuuuut, i think it can be worked into the design on a non-literal level. of the logos that bryan posted, i feel the bristol rovers, SE, RCB, and midnight riders work 'best' because they have a shape (circle, shield, etc) that consolidate the logo itself. what if a diamond shape (a la ben's kite) be used as a background element that 'holds' the elements of the logo?

Wheat or harvesting equipment and nautical elements are all central to the flags. That is why my initial request included a scythe and an oar.

I like the way we're headed with a Diamond shape, else we can always work the kite in elsewhere.

Thanks Andy for penning it...thanks to everyone for the stream of great ideas.

I think you're getting them already...you are already being called an elder.

How old do you have to be to be an elder?

I think it's a term of respect like Founder. I prefer founder personally. But elders means you don't have to be there from the beginning.

i threw together a sketch of where i think the logo can go from here, based on everyone's input to-date. sorry for the poor quality ...

    • the skull is still there, with the 'crossbones' made up of the oar and rifle (although the scythe may make it back in, hence the sketch at bottom)
    • the diamond shape is there as a reference to ben's kite (although elements within it 'break' the shape's boundaries to make it more dynamic)
    • the skull still has the liberty bell-esque crack leading to the eye socket
    • there ARE bifocals on there, and a franklin style hair-do
    • instead of the banner being draped across the bottom, i took inspiration from the badge of birmingham city, which has a banner 'wrapping' around it ... the top part will say 'Sons of Ben' and the bottom part will say 'Est. 2007'
    • in the empty space to the left/right of the skull are small graphic lightning bolts, while a key is used to occupy the empty space above the skull (as obvious references to ben's fabled lightning experiments)
what about colors?! any thoughts on if they should be used, and if so, to what extent?

as far as colors, i dont think we should make the decisions based on what we think the club colors will be.

i'm thinking the objects will be colored according to how they look in real life. the only thing that could be in flux is the banner and text color(s).

I think it's great that the supporters' group will have a founding date before the club's.

if the expansion team is announced soon (as rumor has it), then it would also be founded in 2007. and not that you're saying it is, but having the group implemented before the team isn't a bad thing, as we could have a presence at the 'formal' announcement when (not if) it happens.

Looks like I owe you another lunch. In my opinion the logo should be produced in one color - this makes screen printing and embroidery a breeze and it could be reproduced on dark or light apparel.

Also I liked the bone handle on the scythe/oar before

Leave the lightning bolts on the sides but remove from the bottom

    One color
