Hope they remain the Silverbacks and keep the same uniforms - love the red and black stripes, unique to the other NASL teams.
Atlanta Resurgence. Reference to the city, and, if you're optimistic, to the team's post-rebrand future.
I have no investment in this. Closest I've lived to ATL was SWNC, in 1998. I like the logo, but not the name. I don't care how offensive it may be to whoever; I just find the name ugly and minor league (which is true of the team now). Chiefs almost sounds too much like a team in the "big four" sports. But indeed, there is the Kaizer Chiefs, and they have a cool logo. Granted, we're all PC nowadays, so that may never fly (though they could do a fire-related thing. Atlanta used to be home to the Calgary Flames, no?). I don't like "Apollos", and don't get the ATL connection. Honestly, would Dallas or Toronto have a copyright claim to "FC"?
You should. No, honestly, you should. Don't know why they did it, either. Though they did have a former astronaut who played for them. Not one that would stick, I wouldn't imagine.
The team's Facebook page says that the'll be adding a third choice to the lot. A quick look at the comments on the announce image shows an even split among Silverbacks, Chiefs, and ATL FC. Not a sample I'd take stock in, but for what it's worth ...
This thing is starting to piss me off. There is such a thing as too much outreach, especially if they keep changing the choices. I don't see any of the other options being significantly better than Silverbacks. I'd rather have the money spent on free shuttle buses to and from the Doraville station.
I meant the money it takes to rebrand. But I see the flaw with my suggestion, which is that better access to public transportation will decrease their parking revenue. Since they give away so many free or discounted tickets, I've probably had to pay more for parking than actual tickets last season.
Atlanta has had this rap of papering the joint with freebies. Please do tell me the channels by which you acquired the free and discounted tickets.
I play in an amateur league at the park, so I got free tickets through that twice. Then Silverbacks pretty much gave everybody free tickets for one game to make up for the Open Cup fiasco. They also had throwback night where the tickets were $4. The last two home games of the season they also offered us tickets for $5, including $1 beers for the last game (which was actually the best I've seen the team play, beer goggles or not). The most I've paid is $10, but that included some drink coupons. They definitely make it easy for people to attend the games.
I don't understand the derision that folks throw at the Silverbacks over this. Based solely on what you have said, I don't see anything too bad. All the major leagues short of the NFL run similar deals (except for the freebies) and they are rampant in the minor leagues. Personally, I think that some of the NASL clubs have priced themselves out of the market. The cheapest ticket (short of a group ticket) for the Rowdies is $12. Other clubs are similar. This is minor league soccer and you should be able to score tickets for five or six bucks. They shouldn't be premium seating, but endzone or grass seating areas for sure. Those who want to upgrade can pay the higher prices. Free tickets are more problematic, but it seems like you go to quite a few games and got free tickets twice. No big deal. You are probably solidly in their target audience. Now if you were able to get in free every game then you have a problem.
You are right, even full price is fine. It's a great time to spend a summer night. I would get season tickets too but unfortunately I frequently work on Saturdays. One thing I am not sure about is their attendance counting system. Several times it was recorded as sold out or a near sell out but it didn't feel like it to me.
So as my initial post on this forum, and being a season ticket holder for the Silverbacks, I just would like to add that I've made it known via Facebook and Twitter that if the teams feels the need to change their name, then go to 'Atlanta FC' so it can forever change the debate and we can start spending more time and money on getting the squad more competitive and maybe upgrading the facilities. I'm happy to be here though and I look forward to discussing Silverbacks game in the future
I propose a compromise position. Chefbacks, fc or perhaps the melodic sounding SilverChefs, sc Regardless of the name, I'm renewing my season tickets this week.
