Remember when we used to be on the "A" list for NAT games? Those days are gone. Now we cant even get a Gold Cup game. If you want to see the NATs play in the Gold Cup, you're going to have to go to Hartford or NY. The Razor has fallen off the radar screen it seems. :(

    1) Can you confirm that Gillette Stadium submitted a bid to be a host venue?

    2) If you read the news reports, 8 of the 13 host venues will be hosting the Gold Cup for the first time. Looks like there is a concerted effort by whoever selects the venues to choose new hosts.

Different story/topic, but agreed, in general. It generally only matters every second tournament anyway (to get into the Confed Cup). This isn't one of those years.

I think the point was....... we are not getting NAT games anymore. IDK if the Krafts applied or have they got so apathetic that they doesn't even care if there's any big soccer games in Foxboro? I can't believe that Hartford would be picked over Foxboro if Foxboro applied.

We always turn out well for the NAT games and I hate to think that that may now be over. I've gone to each one in the past when they're offered.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hartford was chosen over Foxborough. Hartford is a great location for USMNT games, as shown by the send off games they've hosted in 2006 and 2010. In Hartford they're able to draw from Boston and the tri-state area. Plus it's a slightly smaller football stadium, so it's better for atmosphere, especially knowing that they won't draw more than 45k for these games in either stadium.

I wouldn't say we always turn out well, but the crowds aren't bad. It's hurt a bit in regards to who we've had as competition, (for example, Haiti and Martinique aren't huge draws).

Rentschler field has grass, Gillette has turf.

A "little birdie" told me Rentschler is quite aggressive in submitting bids for national team games, as US Soccer pays quite well for these events.

I just don't care about Gold Cup, nor do I care about attending a GC game at Gillette. A WCQ is a different story.

That's evidence GC games are about money/visibility, not the turf.

Correct. The sole purpose of having a Gold Cup every two years is to make money. There's a reason why it will rarely be hosted outside of the US, with only Mexico getting to host the occassional game or two.

In some cases, I'm not really sure what the GC is actually about.

Seriously, the GC is just a Jack Warner 'N Friends money grab. Sure, every other tournament the winner gets an invite to an almost equally useless tournament that some people seem to love, but most think is pointless. I know that sports at this level needs to make money, or else it wouldn't exist. But there isn't one iota of importance put on the sporting elements of the GC. Otherwise, it wouldn't be in the US every time, it wouldn't be formatted so it was a US/Mexico final every time, and they wouldn't pick and chose venues just for economic reasons alone...and they wouldn't have it every effing two years.

Honestly, ******** the GC, and ******** CONCACAF.

Seriously, if an honest person who had the good of the sport in the region in mind staged a coup and took over CONCA-laugh there might be a point, but I gave up on the GC long ago.

But if they could make it relevant by playing it the year before Copa America, with the top finishers rounding out the 10 Conmebol teams and whoever the guest teams they invite to make 16, it could be interesting. Honestly, even SuperLiga was a more interesting tournament.
