If you didn't get bogus calls you'd be in the running for Europa League, which is where your team will end up anyways :)

That would've been the normal response...

HOWEVER, because you already said that...

    A little bit of history.

First Official Match at Estadio da Luz
    Beira-Mar 2-0 Benfica

Now, conceding to this whole 'SLB Glorioso' nonsense, that technically makes us worthy of 'glory,' and IE: I am technically a gloryhunter because I like Beira-Mar.

Besides, why would i call a benfiquista a glory hunter? That's like calling a politician an honest man!!!!!

Haha. A Benfica fan talking smack about European competition.

Benifca will be lucky to finish 3rd in their group and join Porto in the Europa Cup. We might even play eachother. :D

Haha, we may but I think Benfica is going to win the Champions League next year. So maybe we'll play in the super cup?

And off topic when are groups drawn...August?

The preliminary qualifiers take forever now. I think the groups will be drawn in September.

Top 10 UEFA Clubs of All Time

    8. S.L. Benfica

2 European Cups/ UEFA Champions League Titles (5 Runner Ups)
33 Portuguese Liga Championships (24 Runner Ups)
24 Taca de Portugal Championships (10 Runner Ups)
    2 Taca da Liga Championships
4 Supertaca Candido de Oliveira Titles (10 Runner Ups)

Benfica comes in at the eight spot in the prestigious rankings. The Portuguese giants have proven to be far away the top club in its nation. They have won 33 League titles and 30 domestic cups.

Benfica have also been strong performers in Europe. They have reached 7 European Cup Finals, bringing home the Cup twice.

The 1960s were Benfica’s grandest decade behind legendary scorer Eusebio. They made five European Cup Finals (winning twice in 61,62) and won eight League Championships.

Benfica has faded from the spotlight and the upper echelon of clubs in Europe, but their history speaks for itself.

Writing this sentence instead, would have saved you time.

The last sentence is what is most relevant.

Hungary used to be a World Power, if a Hungarian started talking about how great they are now based on history (they aren't delusional enough to do it) Benfiquistas would laugh and mock them while failing to see their reflection in the mirror.

To that extent then how many teams are actually good then. Ajax is ranked 4th on that list, but what have they done recently?

Would you say that the only good teams are Barca, United, Liverpool, Milan, Madrid, Bayern and maaaaaaaybe Inter, Arsenal and Chelsea (what have these three won, except domestic leagues which i guess don't really count as Benfica looks to win this one this year). Everyone else doesn't really win anything so they don't count?

The likes of Benfica and Ajax aren't what they used to be because they're from Portugal and Holland. Unfortunately for them, their economies don't match with England, Spain or Germany. Frankly, that's whatever, because unlike your club, and the rest of Portugal's teams minus Porto, we're written in the history of European football FOREVER. Bite on that you hardcore hater.

last time benfica won a european trophy : 1962

last time sporting won a european trophy: 1964

    lmao

last time benfica was big in europe was a long time ago, almost as long ago as the average benfiquista took their last shower.

What's your point? I'm not denying it was a long time ago. All I'm saying is, 100 years from now, Benfica is going to be considered one of the greatest teams in history. The Roman Empire fell a pretty long time ago as well, does that mean they weren't great? We're not as big as we used to be, but we have history no team in Portugal can compete with or, and barring a huge miracle, will ever be able to compete with.

That was a real good one bro. I don't even know what to say. Because that was so good. You hurt my feelings. Congratulations.

    1 Latin cup
    (1 runners up)
2 European Cups/ UEFA Champions League Titles (5 Runner Ups)
    (1 uefa cup runners up)
    (2 intercontinental cup runners up)
32 Portuguese Liga Championships (24 Runner Ups)
24 Taca de Portugal Championships (10 Runner Ups)
    2 Taca da Liga Championships
4 Supertaca Candido de Oliveira Titles (10 Runner Ups)

    lets compare the titles

    1 uefa cup winners cup
    (1 latin cup runners up)
    (1 uefa cup runners up)
never made to champions league final or semifinal. and only a 1/2 times to the quarters-finals.) = NO HISTORY IN EUROPE LOL. now compare that to BENFICA.
    18 portuguese liga championships
    (19 runners up)
    15 taca de portugal
    (16 runners up)
    0 taca da liga
7 candido de oliveira ( wow the only cup sporting has more than benfica)
    (1 runners up)

    sportings' golden years 40's and 50's = 10 titles
    from 1960 to 2010 = 50 years = 8 titles. WOW THATS GREAT.
the VISCONDES really miss those SALAZAR YEARS.

comparing sporting to benfica is like comparing a peugeot to a FERRARI.
